Most modern manuals have something in place to prevent an accidental shift into reverse.

I wonder how the Bronco will handle this and will the crawler gear have the same protection?

I'm thinking that the pull up ring will be used for both.

I remember seeing a video (It was one where journalists were doing ride-alongs on Ford's off road proving grounds I think), and it showed the driver in a manual car engaging the crawler gear. It definitely looked like he was using the reverse lockout (ring you pull) to engage it.

Should have a pull up collar under the knob to get over to R and C. The 6 spd in my FIST has it for R.

I've driven cars with reverse high and left and it's not a problem
Typically the spring and pressure needed to get over to reverse is strong enough that it's very clear what you're doing

The pull up ring is annoying and unnecessary

Yeah, saw this exact question asked on FB an hour or so ago, someone showed a picture of it working how you describe.

I miss my toploader 4 speed. Had one in a 78 Van and a 67 Cougar. My shifter arm had to have muscle and I loved it. Took enough work to shift into any gear that you knew where you were at all times.

Makes me wonder who the fuck is the moron that makes this a necessary process. It all started with one person... You know who you are:cautious:

I talked to one of the guys at the Bronco event and he confirmed that the pull up ring is for Reverse and the Crawl gear. Said you can go into the Crawl gear even at speed. Recommend under 10mph, but more testing was being done.

It's a good safety feature. I have 2 past vehicles (Mini JCW & Wrangler JK) with close R and 1st gear (upper left) position, that i have accidentally shift into reverse. I was lucky not to hit anyone with unintentional backing. Recent Wrangler JLR that I had have this pull up ring as well, but i had to give up and trade for a Tacoma.

Either a pull up ring, a push down lever or an extra spring are all worth it.

I believe all the manuals I've had were push down to get into reverse.

When I search crawler gear, I only see Bronco coming up, is the Bronco the only manual made with a crawler gear? Like ever???

Also does anyone know the max and min speed for the crawler gear?
