In boost these engines are consuming fuel at the highest rate. So minimize boost for max economy.
I learned this driving my wife's F-150 (automatic *bleh*). In town it gets better mileage in sport mode, because it holds gears longer, which means it's running lest boost. It's seriously dumb in normal mode, it's in 10th gear at 45 mph and then lugs.

I agree with everyone else, enable the boost gauge and cruse in the highest gear with the lowest boost.

There's a lot of variables to deal with Adam, i.e. amount of traffic, hills, etc. I think after you've got some miles under your belt you will have found the sweet spot with changing gears to get the mpgs that will please you. We have a saying on the Ranger forum, "You can have boost, or you can have mpgs, but you can't have both". It took me awhile to figure out where the turbo kicked in on starting from a stop. When I did I started getting the posted in town mpgs. You get it soon. Enjoy that Bronco.

Stay off the boost, is likely the best thing you can do.
