So... My dealer couldn't get me in for my first oil change... I said ehh, big deal, went to Walmart got 7qts motorcraft 5w30 and the filter..

Everything went well, broke loose the filter first and pulled it... That's when I saw it, metal shards on the filter.

What looks tho have happened is the metal threads that are cut into the front cover/intake for the filter housing were never cleaned after machining. I used a microfiber and kept wiping the threads and getting more off the threads.

After the oil change and cleaning I did a throttle and brake pedal down prime to start, oil light went out and I started it and it sounds fine and no oil lights.

I've put about 600 miles on it since and it seems fine, I changed the oil at 5000 miles because I'm NOT waiting for 10k. My neighbor was there and freaked out, said I should take it to the dealer, I don't see why because there's literally nothing they can do at this point. (I worked for Ford service for about a year).

Just figured I'd warn everyone, if I had taken it to the dealer I never would have seen this... I didn't use any sprays or cleaners, just a microfiber and all seems ok now.

"throttle and brake pedal down prime to start"
What??
Step on the brake and throttle pedals at the same time and then push the start button, allows the motor to turn over without starting. This ensures oil is distributed throughout after an oil change.

Yeah if you floor the gas and brake and hit the start button it goes through a start cycle but doesn't start, gets oil back where it needs to go before a "dry start" condition could occur. Gotta keep both pedals down the whole cycle though.

Yep, looks like the metal is residuals from the machining process to me as well.

10K oil change? Wow that's a way too long interval. I would not go more than 5K. I do my daily driver Jetta at 5K, spec's call for 10K. It was very dirty at 5K.

Agreed, I did this at 4895mi. The oil life said it was 50%, the owners manual says 10k intervals as well, but the oil was very dark, so I'm going to stick to 5000 intervals. Hopefully I'm done seeing metal in it...

It’s called clear flood mode, and completely unnecessary while doing an oil change. But that’s a topic for a different thread.

I do this on my Jeep after it's been sitting for a bit. It eliminates the initial phase cam rattling ...but then again, it's a Jeep 🤣

I just posted this in another thread but I have a squeel I've been trying to find in mine. It's almost a high pitch chirping sound when accelerating. It wont do it in park only in motion. I have the 2.7L and checked the oil this morning and found two metal flakes. I only have 2K miles on the vehicle and am not a mechanic but is this cause for concern? I'm going to try and take it to the dealer today but wanted some other opinions.

Is it aluminum or steel? Take magnet to it. But no way it made its way through the oiling system. Has to be from the housing as stated before. Imo.
