I just took delivery of my 2022 Badlands Sas with high package. I was an original reservation holder and I remember seeing that getting the hard top sound deadener was free and eventually became a standard option for Badlands.

So looking at my hard top, I just see the MIC material and a little bit of felt/carpet around the hard top latches.

I asked my salesman about the sound deadening and he said that Ford started putting it on the inside of the hard top

Now the hardtop is pretty quiet, especially compared to my ‘06 Jeep, but I keep seeing the felt/carpet liner on the forums and on the accessory website

Can anyone confirm that the sound deadening is indeed internal now when its from the factory? Is this something I can contact and confirm with Ford?

Thanks!

Lol, the things sales guys just make up is frustrating and hilarious. No it's "inside" as in on the inside portion of the top. It's not internal to the top.
Ford made it an option you had to select, even though it's free.

I don't have a great picture of it right now, but you can see it in this:

The fuzzy stuff on the roof.
Extreme close up of it near the right rear latch on my 2 door: It should be on the majority of the roof, not just near the latches.

It was originally an extra-cost option, about $500.
Ford eventually made it a 'free' option. It was usually just automaticly added to all hardtop orders with the exception (as mentioned) builds with MGV vinyl seats. In those cases it needed to be specifically added to the order but was still a no-cost option.
There are aftermarket headliners avail. Hothead Headliners has posted here on the board with their products.

It was a zero cost option, but it was still an option that you had to select.

It may have been automatic on a few trim levels, but on my Base, I had to select it. It definately was not automatic if you got MGV seats since a big wad of felt would obviously retain water.
