$5 large from little caesars, $2.50 plus tax per person.
But the cost of the TP, lost time due to bathroom lines, and people calling in with Botulism the next day would cost more.

*Sorry if anyone is a current Caesars employee or really big fan of their food.
But it is what it is.
Slightly above Taco Bell in the GI distress category but lower than a stick of celery.

Happy to see the worker gets to benefit from this. Forced mandatory time off is sort of a joke IMO
But sometimes it's a necessary evil. Even in my world of government contracting, we do this as a very last resort. Every single alternative is explored and implemented before resorting to mandatory PTO, which usually tends to decrease moral.

I am not in the auto industry, but we have a mandatory shutdown at the end of the year that I have to cover with PTO, but you just plan for it usually its about 3-4 days. I also have a float day annually that just goes towards this timeframe. Right now I am hovering around 25 PTO days accrued and can max it out at 30. For a couple of years I was on contract work and all days off were unpaid.

3,000 employees x $17 a plate catered = $51,000.
So morning donuts instead then. Dozen donuts $10. 3,000 employees - 2 donuts per = 6,000 donuts. 6,000/12= 500 boxes of 12 donuts. 500 x $13 (figure donut cost, tax and delivery) = $6,500. at $10 per user we'd need 650 users to chip in.

I'd be down for $40 if someone wants to execute this on the pickup side of things.

Plants typically use these summer shut downs to bring in new equipment to the line as well. My company builds equipment for automotive seats so we have installs going on around the summer shut downs and other shut downs around holidays through the year.
Any chance you can help accelerate the black leather option on mine ;-)

$51,000 / 19,461 members = $2.62 each
$51,000 / 1,000 ACTIVE members = $51 each
$51,000 / 500 ACTIVE members who would actually contribute = $102 each

Number of people of the 500 that would actually pay after they say they will, maybe half.
50% conversion rate?

Also, Where's all the baller car negotiators on here?

Glad to hear this is not negatively impacting most workers and if it means we can get a few more units cranked out to all that might be waiting, it seems more like a win/win.

As an end consumer, I am extremely happy that the decision was to work on through the normal shutdown period. I hope the workers are as pleased, and get properly compensated.

Its always tough having usual time off changed, but we appreciate all the employees working so hard to make the Bronco happen. How long is the usual shut down?
My dad works for GM. but UAW is UAW and typically shut downs are about a week long. And just today he said he will be shut down due to a Circuit shortage. He put in for a week off and hopefully an additional week.

35 years in auto here.

Hurray you say, they get to schedule their vacation when they want. Well no they don't, sorry, they get to schedule by seniority when slots are available. Most likely for "most" younger/ lower seniority workers, the ones with kids, will not be able to vacation with family during school down months. Trust me those prime slots go quick. So who's up for those February vacation slots? Step right up.

Most everyone off for a non shutdown vacation requires a replacement worker. That's roughly 1 replacement employee for every 25 1/2 line workers figuring for 2 weeks vacation and Xmas down week. Ford hates that, more costs, the UAW likes it, more dues. The UAW grudgingly supports vacation shutdown as it's a benefit to "most" workers.

Sounds to me like Ford want's to get some Broncos built even at a higher cost.

Didn't they announce the closure of the Avon plant? Are they trying to use up raw materials on hand?

Kinda funny seeing people complain about using PTO to cover mandatory time off. You should be grateful to have it to use.
