Hey Guys!

Nick here from Mishimoto back again to kick off another development thread for you! That's right, we're finally digging into the intercooler piping for the 2.7L engine option, and we've already made some progress on the project. We still have a ways to go though since we're still in the preliminary design phase, but we'd love for you to follow along with our progress!

As always, make sure that you head over to our Engineering Blog for the full writeup!

FUNCTIONALLY WILD ā€“ 2021+ FORD BRONCO 2.7L PERFORMANCE INTERCOOLER PIPING R&D, PART 1 ā€“ STOCK REVIEW AND DESIGN PLANS

Ford Bronco Mishimoto's Bronco 2.7L Intercooler Pipe Kit R&D Thread NTR_7486

The Bronco is built for the wilderness. Just a glance at this towering machine makes that apparent. Even the trims not dressed to the nines in the sprawling catalog of off-roading accouterments still have the natural instinct to scamper through most terrains thanks to the well-sorted AWD system and 2.7L powerplant. While this twin-turbo V6 is no slouch, we enthusiasts still have the inherent need to add even more horses to the pack. Cranking up the boost through tunes and turbos is the simplest solution, but other components must be addressed to handle this added power first.

Fordā€™s priority for function becomes truly apparent once you lift the hood on your 2.7L powered Bronco. The intricate maze of tubes and pipes on full display gives us flashbacks to that classic Windows screensaver. Each pipe and component snakes perfectly around each other, creating organized chaos, but all working together in harmony together. This layout, however, does take its toll on the 2.7Lā€™s intercooler piping system, which is not conducive to furthering the engineā€™s performance. Luckily, we have a plan to rectify this, but first, we need to take a look at the OEM layout. Continue Reading...

Will at this rate @Mishimoto Would it be easier to just take out the engine route the pipe the way you see fit? It would not look like a rat nest at that point šŸ˜‚

Hey Guys!

Just wanted to give this thread a much needed bump with our latest update! Make sure that you head over to the Engineering Blog to get some more info!

Functionally Wild ā€“ 2021+ Ford Bronco 2.7L Performance Intercooler Piping R&D, Part 2 ā€“ Prototyping

NT6_9894.jpg

Our first step to devising our new path was through the creation of our virtual workspace with the help of our Faro Design ScanArm and modeling software. These tools combined give our engineer, Dan, a scale replica of the Broncoā€™s engine bay to generate our new design. With such tight tolerances throughout the now larger diameter intercooler pipesā€™ path, we didnā€™t want to leave anything to chance. So instead, we opted to bring our digital design to life with the help of our array of 3D printers. Utilizing these plastic prototypes also helps streamline our development process since we can print our designs in a matter of hours and quickly adjust their physical forms. Continue Reading...

Hey @Jersey250 - our Bronco is currently on the dyno and prelim results are looking positive. Once we have finalized graphs, I'll make sure to share them. Product launch is still a few months out. Hang tight!

Do these actually add power or generally just modify engine sound?

they donā€™t really mess with sound too much. Changing out the charge air pipes are for performance gains. By themselves you wonā€™t see much adifference, but if you swap the intercooler, and tune it or go for bigger turbos thatā€™s where you see the best results. They likely improve on the factory air delivery and help cut on losses and are stronger.
