Hey Guys!

Nick from Mishimoto back again with EVEN MORE goodies in the works for the Bronco platform, this time in the form of a fresh new intake kit! So far we dove into the stock kit and started to work on our airbox design that will be compatible across both engine options. Make sure that you check out the first installment of our process over on our Engineering Blog:

Wild Breath – 2021+ Ford Bronco 2.3L/2.7L Performance Air Intake R&D, Part 1 – Stock Review and Airbox Design Plans

NLT_9248.jpg

Just like the wild horses these trucks take their name from, every Ford Bronco is equipped with a “go anywhere, do anything” attitude from the factory. No matter which engine is cradled under the hood, each Bronco is more than well equipped for a life of automotive freedom. However, for those serious overlanders lugging heavy recovery or camping equipment or those just looking for some extra shove back in their seat, some more power is needed. The intake system is the best place to start on your expedition for additional power.
...
Typically, when a manufacturer like Ford designs an intake system for their road-going vehicles, the engineering team performs a balancing act between a few factors to devise their final kit. These factors include meeting stringent efficiency and emissions standards, reducing harsh engine noises, maximizing performance, all while fitting into the manufacturing budget. Basically, it’s not an easy feat and usually involves compromises in terms of performance, specifically for the airbox’s design. Read more...

Hey Guys!

I just wanted to bump this thread with some more info on our intake for you! Make sure that you head to the Engineering Blog for the full scoop!

WILD BREATH – 2021+ FORD BRONCO 2.3/2.7L PERFORMANCE AIR INTAKE R&D, PART 3 – 2.7L DESIGN PLANS

NLT_8664-scaled.jpg

Ford’s flagship off-roader design lives up to its “Built Wild” tagline. Function is prioritized over form. As rugged as these trucks look, those tough looks can only get you so far. Ford knew this and packed their Broncos full of tricks and traits that make them more at home on a desolate trail than crowded interstates. As wild as these Broncos are, some might find the 2.7L under the hood is still a bit domesticated. While not built to be a speed demon, some more attitude is always a welcome addition.

Intakes are always the best place to start when breaking any vehicle out of its shell, with the 2.7L Bronco being no exception. While bolting an intake kit on this 2.7L will provide immediate audible results, we expect most of the performance to come in tandem with performance mapping. We dive deeper into the intricacies of fuel mapping in our recent tech post, but the MAP, or speed density, based tuning powering the Bronco uses a combination of sensors and preloaded fuel tables to determine the proper fuel mixture. So, as the airflow increases in the system, the ECU will compensate and, on the whole, maintain power figures, whereas a performance tune will make the best use of this upgraded intake system. Random idea nick. After studying the intake plumbing and location of the oem battery, it seems like it could be possible to combine a battery box with the coolant resi and make room for a separate airbox and filter for the driver side turbo (2.7).
Not sure what could be gained by providing each turbo with its own filter and more direct flow to the driver side snail but I thought it was worth mentioning!
Any eta of your intake/Intercooler setups?!

That interesting idea @Mishimoto what you think about that Design since you're still prototyping.

another odd ball suggestion, what about taking cues from the raptor bronco intake plumbing and go over the engine instead of around and down.

Hey guys!

Just wanted to give this thread a bump since we have a production sample of this kit's airbox in the house! We're stoked to show it off, so make sure that you head over to the Engineering Blog to check it out!

WILD BREATH – 2021+ FORD BRONCO 2.3L/2.7L PERFORMANCE INTAKE R&D, PART 4 – AIRBOX PRODUCTION SAMPLE

Compromise is all about finding balance. From the design studio to the streets, these Broncos have had to compromise on a few topics to make them adequate on the pavement and functional once that asphalt runs out. One of the main topics of contention between the punchy 2.3L and 2.7L workhorse is the airbox for both intake systems. While both parties have reached an agreement, for now, some renegotiation is in order, and we’re here to mediate.

Looking back to our first post, Ford opted to share the intake system’s airbox between the four and six-cylinder powerplant options. While this decision slimmed production costs, it also squandered both engines’ potential. If there’s an EcoBoost badge on a Ford, it’s almost guaranteed that enthusiasts will demand more boost from the system. That extra pressure will be in vain, though, since this airbox is one of the gatekeepers of power. Until now, that is. Continue Reading...

Your dual catch can is amazing...capturing oil on the PVC side and surprisingly on the CCV side as well. Interested in the next stage which is adding the air intake since Fast Intentions axel-back is about to ship. Looking closely how this shapes up vs K&N air intake. Are you planning to dyno HP and torque numbers?

polyethylene, or XLPE, rotational-molded construction. This method gives us the best of all options. While we might harp on plastic components, this material choice still has plenty of benefits. For starters, XLPE is a hearty material that's more than capable of standing up to the harsh conditions of an engine bay. It also gives our engineers much more creative freedom when shaping these new designs, which is especially important for this particular kit. Continue Reading...

Hey Guys!

I just wanted to give this thread a bump and let you know that the results are in for our intake testing! Make sure that you head over to our engineering blog for more info!

Wild Breath – 2021+ Ford Bronco 2.7L Performance Air Intake, Part 8 – 2.7L Testing Results

NLT_0038.jpg

Navigating the engine bay of the 2.7L powered Bronco was quite an arduous journey. The maze of hardlines, pipes, and fluid hoses added a degree of difficulty to our journey, but we were still able to find the hidden treasure buried under the dense labyrinth of stock components – more power. The success of this expedition was explicitly tied to our fresh new intake design that’s now found a home in the 2.7L EcoBoost jungle and is contributing to its thriving ecosystem.
We also JUST launched this kit on presale! Make sure that you grab yours while the special discount pricing lasts!

Great Question!

Basically it depends on your region. Both options are going to offer a great balance between filtration and performance, but oiled filters can clog up in dry/sandy/dusty environments much quicker than a dry filter option. Upkeep is about the same for both, you'd just need to re-oil the oiled filter after each cleaning.
