I’ve been burned by Chrysler too many times to ever trust them again. Biggest one was a 2006 Jeep Liberty. That horrible 3.7 went at 140k. Transfer case always got stuck. Window never worked. Alternators kept dying. But it was a fun little suv.
OMFG!!! I hope you didnt have to replace the starter. I just spent like 5 hours on a starter for a 3.7 liberty. It was a freaking nightmare. A starter should be like maybe a 3 wrench 20 minute job. But I had dozens of tools out on that one. removed the driveshaft and the exhaust and 2 heat sheilds and still had to do everything by feel. Sure its fun and peppy and decent offroad. My driveway is a good benchmark for capability. But that sucked. yeah the transfercase is sticky and the window motors or tracks are junk. Decent car but troublesome for sure. I feel they could be decent if you modified everything on em. But really thinking about my old cjs I guess thats what a good jeep is all about.

I'm actually the opposite... I've been dying for a 2 door SUV M/T and my current car is on it's last limb. I've been waiting for the Bronco but I may be forced to grab a Jeep, especially with the discounts being offered right now. Even if the Bronco were to be revealed, it's still a year until release and I'm not sure my car will make it. I'll hold out for as long as possible but I really don't want to invest money into this thing to hold out so I've been researching Wranglers

My beloved Wrangler was stolen from me several years ago during a time when I could not afford to replace it. I have been hunting to fill the hole it left ever since but the more recent Jeeps just don't feel right.

The new Bronco on the other hand. My first car was a Ford and I have always been a Ford fan. This new Bronco looks like it might just fit the bill.

The catch phrase might need updating: It's a Jeep Bronco thing.

I am cautiously optimistic.

I was born into a Ford family and also own a JKu. I have one ford product and one ford engined car and wouldn't mind having a Ford trifecta again by adding the bronco, really looking forward to the reveal, them not showing it yet has really bummed me out though, hopefully soon.

I own a 18.5 JLU Rubicon with 43k and a 19 Grand Cherokee with 18k. No issues on mine, both excellent vehicle. I'm looking forward to purchasing a new Bronco, but will be keeping the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee as we have 4 drivers in the family and will be adding another as my 15 year old son turn 16 in a few months. Also own a 17 4Runner TRD Pro that my oldest son laid claim to.

that grand cherokee will start breaking down at 100k miles. working for a towing company for a few years I quickly learned that the transmissions and differentials in FCA products dont last to much past 100k. Can’t tell you how many times I piked up a Jeep, charger, 300 even Pacifica with a locked up trans.

Nearly every time I see “Jeep” in this thread, it goes like this, “to compete with the Wrangler, the Bronco has to...(fill in the blank).” Compete? I don’t think so. IMHO, I do not believe Ford can compete with the Wrangler nor do I believe it wants to. Ford is (hopefully) in this to win. Think of it in these analogous terms; it’s a baseball game, Ford vs Jeep. Jeep is up 2 to 1 in the ninth, with Ford batting in the bottom half of the inning. Not only does Ford have to score a run to tie (that’s called “competing”), it has to score another run to win. That should be team Ford’s objective. To draw customers, and Jeep guys like me (I’ve also driven Fords: my ‘19 Ranger, an ‘01 Sport Trac, a ‘98 Ranger, and five work Crown Vics), Ford is going to have to offer us a Bronco with most of the “Jeep things,” like removable tops and doors, off-road chops, easily modifiable and add-on parts (in the driveway), the “fun factor,” the looks, PLUS...that extra “run” to win. Something else that is enough to get us over the fence and on to the other side. It’s probably not going to be good enough to just build a “Ford version of the Wrangler,” that’s not a winner, that’s a “tie.” And a tie is like kissing your sister.

Then what is that extra “run” that draws not only the ‘novice’ buyer, but also entices current Wrangler owners? I do not know, but I suspect it will not be one thing. Rather a combination of things like price, power, specifications, options, accessories, ease of modifications, curb appeal, etc. We could have the “Mustang vs Camero” discussion here, but this is more than that. This is actually serious. The upcoming generation seems less brand loyal than their parents. Ram overtook the Ford F-Series last year for customers under the age of 35. Can Bronco follow a similar path vs Jeep? Can it also convert some percentage of the current masses of Wrangler owners? Let’s face it, the 800 pound elephant in the room is the Jeep Wrangler and with all due respect to everyone on this Forum, I have generally not seen here what it will take for Ford to get a Jeep owner out of their Wrangler and into a Bronco other than those few disgruntled owners and a few others, like me, excited to try something new, assuming its a winner! And that’s the rub.

Last week, I bought a new 2019 Wrangler Mojito MOAB for the wife. Why? Because she sees my Jeeps and all the other Jeeps on the road and she wanted one (she also owns a three-pedal ‘10 Dodge Challenger Hemi in Furious Fuchsia - think Panther Pink). How is Ford going to get women like her into the Bronco? For that matter, how many folks on this Forum will eventually go buy the Wrangler and why (other than the delay factor)? We can dream and speculate all we want, but Ford actually has to sell this vehicle to keep it in production. And to do that, I believe they need to do more than compete, they need to produce a clear and convincing winner.

See previous post about how much more power the Bronco will make With the 2.7 ecoboost than the Wrangler, especially with some minor mods. It’s a winner in the power plant department. Even if it gets the 2.3 ecoboost

Where did you find a baby elephant those suckers are measured in TONS!

Anyway good post, I think ford will make a real winner here, They always have with the bronco. Aside from the bronco 2 they have always had great power in their class, a removable top, and industry leading innovative suspension and drivetrain. They know their benchmarks. I think the real reason they are making the bronco sport is because they had to make something normal for the bean counters. The bronco probably wont be a huge profit although they can get alot of free cash by selling other manufacturers accessories. The bronco itself is more of a halo car passion project, and it with represent all that is right and just with our historic bronco desires.

Go buy something to tide you over if your rich, seems like people dont lose much but time equity on trade ins anyway, my 96 will be just fine for another year or so. Just hang on, Fords got this.
