More Than Just Parks posted this video to youtube:

Features an EG 4Dr a little over a minute in.

I was already pumped for my road trip to Moab in September for the off-rodeo and this vid certainly didn't hurt.

The Shafer Switchbacks and White Rim Trail shown in the video are stunning, but do not require a robust 4X4 to navigate. A 2WD truck or 4Runner is all that is needed, at least for the eastern half of White Rim trail. I havenā€™t driven the western half, so I canā€™t comment on that section of the ~100 mile loop.

The area shown in the video

is the Islands in the Sky section of the Park. The Needles district is a further drive from Moab, but definitely worth seeing. There are some considerably more challenging roads in the Needles district.

The Maze district is hardcore. I havenā€™t made it there yet, but hope to.

Hardscrabble (towards the west end of the trail), absolutely requires 4wd. And while not necessarily the hardest stuff I've ever done, is by far the most butt-puckering section of off-roading I've experienced.

Here's @talbot negotiating a small traffic jam on the far end of that section:

Canyonlands is fricken awesome. It doesn't get much credit due to its proximity to Moab, Zion, Lake Powell, etc. but it's awesome, grew up about an hour away and it was a frequent visit for my family in the ol' 4th gen Bronco.

Jim & Will's videos are also great, made me want to do my own video... which hopefully I'll be able to do for Badlands National Park. (If the park service would ever get around to approving my permit, that is.)

"two wheel drive truck or 4Runner is all that's needed". Got a chuckle out of that one.

Made it out to that park couple years ago in my LX450... Not a fan of heights so we skipped that trail. Such a beautiful place, amazing video

Was there a few weeks ago. Dead Horse State Park has fantastic 4x4 off roads, and it's right next to Canyonlands.
BTW, Canyonlands is shockingly huge. Four distinct regions to explore.

The herd goes to Arches and Deadhorse and mostly ignores Canyonlands (except for Mesa Arch, which is a clusterf**k in its own right especially at sunrise). Lovely place to visit and explore mostly in peace if you are willing to get a bit off the paved roads.

White Rim is not hard core, but I suspect that 90% of those who hang out here (myself included) will never be on anything more than a medium trail in a Bronco. Needles, as noted, is almost entirely hard core.

The one and only time I have "risked" photographing Mesa Arch was after a snow dusting on a bitterly cold early December morning, when there were less than a dozen people who made it out for sunrise. I don't think I will ever make another attempt since I don't see how I can do much better than what I already have captured and experienced, and the crowds are getting worse every year.

If you get to Arches early (before 7:00 am), you donā€™t need a timed entry, youā€™ll beat the herd and you can hit many of the high points in one day. The Devilā€™s Garden Full Lollipop hike is a great 5 mile hike and will take you to many of the signature arches in the park. I would drive there directly, upon entering the park, and eat lunch (take your own) immediately after the hike. Then drive to the Delicate Arch trail (3 mile round trip). It will be more crowded and hotter, but is not overly taxing if youā€™re in halfway decent shape. Then, you can drive by the Balanced Rock Trail, Windows Loop and Double Arch. The walks to any of these are very short and not challenging. Thatā€™s a good day in Arches and you will have seen most of the notable sights in the park.

Canyonlands requires more planning, but devote one day to the Islands in the Sky district and one day to the Needles district. It would be easy to spend more days in either district.

Capitol Reef National Park is about 2 hours from Moab, has some fantastic scenery and is not crowded. Itā€™s a full day to go there, but worth the drive.

The bend in the trail shown centre left is Chicken Corners which combines with Hurrah Pass and other trails in the area. Another great drive!

This pic is looking back at Chicken Corners from the point in the centre of the picture. Gives you an idea of the scale of the entire area.

We did a similar trip last year. Got to Arches before 7:00. No lines, no issues with parking. Drove to the far end first and worked our way backwards. Canyonlands is awesome!

A great option to finish your day in Arches is to do the Tower Arch/Eye of the Whale trail, which is actually a 4wd-required trail within Arches National Park. Good fun and not very busy (at least when we did it last October).
