On the news there was just a recall noted for this issue with the Bronco sport, I wonder if this could be related.

Not that I've noticed, I did notice it on a mannequin I drove last year. I was worried about this issue with mine. It does have a bit more travel before it starts engaging that I'm getting used to

While there can be air in the line that needs to be bled, one must understand the 2.3L has vacuum brake boosted brakes. If you press the brake in increments, the brakes become more responsive with each pressing. If you only press the brake a single time, they will feel mushy and you'll be depressing the pedal the maximum range for a complete stop. Tapping the brake pedal successive times will yield a greater response.

Its pretty hard to tap the brake pedal successive times during an emergency stop.
The pedal does not feel firm and keeps moving toward the firewall during the stop making it hard to feel what the brakes are doing.

without feeling exactly what your feeling its hard to say but this sounds normal as previous poster explained with vac boosted brakes. Should still stop quick in an emergency with one press, although a longer throw. Go back to dealer. Pretty hard to dx over a forum.

Mine has that typical squishy Ford-truck feeling, however I can hear it whistle.

just press all the way down and let the ABS does it's job during the emergency.
subtle is not the way to go if you really need to do an emergency stop.

I have been driving all kinds of vehicle during my adult life. With this Bronco>>>
When making an normal stop at a say stop light from 50 mph, as you begin to stop the pedal moves down approx 1". In order to keep the same stopping deceleration you must apply more braking travel as the pedal keeps moving towards the firewall, reducing the brake pedal force you just applied to the pedal at the beginning of the stop.
You have to follow the pedal towards the fire wall to maintain braking...scarry when pulling into a parking place or up to your garage door. You just don't get that hard brake pedal feel.

Always upgraded pads and rotors, plus the inevitable stainless steel brake lines

Brought it to the Ford dealer and they turned the rotors and flushed/bled the brakes.
No change.

I can put my foot on the brake farly hard and it moves 2-3 inches. When you start the Bronco the pedal moves further down , just shy of the firewall.

If it is possible to delete/ unhook the ABS system this may show the issue is in the ABS system module.
I tried unplugging electrical connections to the ABS and got faults on the screen.

You will have errors up the Ying yang, and you will lose speedo, but you could drive it around the block that way just to see the difference. Conventional braking should be unaffected

You sure you didn't unplug the engine computer? Then it definitely won't start. ABS it should still run...course I haven't tried on mine yet. ABS is inside DR wheelhouse
