I notice better performance when using premium fuel, regardless of the vehicle.

So is the increased mileage a push with the increased price? If so, better to have the performance than not.

Go Dawgs. Do you have the 2.3 or 2.7? Never mind I see it was posted in the 2.3 thread. Still go Dawgs though.

Yep looked for that and must have missed it, it was also posted in the 2.3 thread which should have been a big clue as well.

I don't know if this is true (wait it has to be true I read it on the internet) but premium gas is also supposed to reduce the carbon build up on the 2.3l turbo and avoid the expensive valve cleaning service down the road.

It makes sense considering it burns hotter, which means less unburned residue
The residue is on the back side of the valve from oil mist via the PCV.

Octane in and of itself is not a predicter of burn temp. Measured head temps or exhaust gas temps are affected by timing and mixture.

Correct.

Also octane is the resistance to ignite the higher rating the harder to ignite. You should run the lowest octane that does not cause pre-ignition or ping. Now with eco boost and others that can run lower octane with lower power they tune adjusts timing and fuel to avoid ping and why they make less power.
