The dirtbag dealers can't wait for people to balk in the finance room at the last minute. As far as they're concerned, the Bronco will be sitting on their lot, ready for them to sell to the highest bidder after you walk. My original dealer's alleged Bronco specialist told me exactly that when I told him other dealers were offering better prices already. Said he had a very long list of people already waiting to buy my Bronco if I didn't want it. I can't wait to switch to a trustworthy dealer before the transfer period ends Oct. 31.
They tell you that to make you stick with them. Not everybody is going to buy a Bronco straight from dealer if it not reserved before. People have to order them first, reservations doesnt make instant orders. Scare tactics.

My dealer contacted me in two days after I placed my reservation and had no issues. Just called to confirm and say thank you.

My understanding of the reservation is it's just holding our spot in line to place an order. It isn't an order itself. We have the option to either place an order with the additional $900 down or to pass on placing an order and getting our $100 back.

That said, I can see Ford saying "We have a production capacity of XXXX Broncos per month, so we are only making YYY special orders per month so dealerships can get some into their showrooms" or something similar. Effectively making people with orders in wait longer to get their order fulfilled.

if I recall correctly, FCA basically throttled "custom ordered" Gladiator production initially as they had a large line of people that wanted one and had put in orders.

With ALL that said, the OP needs to find a new dealer. And report the interaction to Ford. Seems a bit shady to demand more $$$ than Ford itself wants AND make it non refundable.

Sounds like last year when I was considering a Gladiator. I had an internet sales woman tell me they were justifying adm because the Gladiator was a limited edition model and they were only getting a few.

I am partnered with Malloy in Alexandria, VA and i haven't heard anything from them. I am looking for something better here in the Northern VA area. If not, I will be going with the WVA dealership.
Have you looked at Cowles in Woodbridge or Purvis in Fredericksburg? Im signed up with Purvis since they're local and honoring Xplan etc. Cant vouch for Cowles.

Which is how good dealers get a bad name. Deal with enough liars and you'll never know who's the honest one.
Why folks get gun shy when buying vehicles.

Ford F-150 production is around 70,000 per month (not including covid Spring)

https://www.goodcarbadcar.net/ford-f-series-sales-figures/

Ford Explorer production is around 18,000 per month on average.

https://fordauthority.com/2020/04/ford-explorer-sales-numbers-figures-results-first-quarter-2020-q1/

Based on those two figures and knowing that the Bronco is new and may have some growing pains on the production floor, I expect us all to get our Broncos next year.
"By next year"?

So, my very rude GSM at Malloy Ford in Charlottesville first asked me for $500 non-refundable deposit to order the 2 door today (lie), but then after I asked about any dealer markups he said he wasn't sure and that he didn't believe Ford would actually fulfill all reservations. I asked why and he said he's been doing this awhile so he knows. I'm running from them asap. Anybody else hear anything like that?
My dealer has ( By October ) to commit to my FE price or I'm switching to Stephen's Auto Center.

will know all about dealership tactics and look upon the "FORD" brand as something not to do business with......
While I agree with the sentiment, it is not Ford. It is all Manufacturers and all Industries.

I had to cross shop on my own where best to get an MRI.
No one would help me; not my PCP, not my Insurer, not my Specialist.
I had to friggin shop like I was buying a car.
Call 5-7 locations, get their price, then look at who had the better reputation of service.
Then start calling them back to price match where I wanted to go.

Ridiculous really.

They will be producing no YYY Broncos until the XXXX are fulfilled in your scenario just for clarification...
