I need to move the rear hooks and pulleys further back, so the ropes go straight up, I may adjust those another day.

That is exactly what I'm going to do for mine. I'm going to use 6 ft tow straps to cradle the roof though. So we'll see how that goes.

I initially tried tow straps, I didn’t like the way they rubbed coming around the rubber gaskets. So I opted for 2x4’s with the bolted eye hooks (washer on bottom).

I use one of these hoist kits. Just pull one rope and lifts off easily.

I also use 4 of these for safety if the top is going to be suspended for long term. Just hook to eye bolts in ceiling and thru the metal bracket that the factory bolt goes thru to hold the top to the vehicle in the front and the metal bracket the strut attaches to in the rear. I have also just used the rope pulleys alone. Just walk around and pull one rope at a time to lift off vehicle. Either way is easy and fairly cheap.

Good idea, I don’t like the idea of long term rope hanging. After I adjust the distance of the hooks on the ceiling, I may just be hooking it directly to the ceiling. No ropes involved.

The 2x4 supporting it from the top is smart. I saw several examples where people would just hook rachet straps under the lip of the top but I was worried about that putting weird stress on the top. Probably isn't an issue to be honest.

None the less, I made a frame for the hard top to rest on and lock into with the factory locating pins out of aluminum angle and squar tube.

I have yet to install my Harken Hoister.
Apparently Harken is a big name in the marine/sailing industry. Sounds like they make top notch hoisting/lifting/pulley systems.

Their heep/Bronco/Truck version uses a 6:1 mechanical advantage to make the lifting portion very easy.
A buddy has one for his truck cap. His petite wife can one arm lift that cap with this system.

As noted, kind of common that folks will use ratchet straps/tie downs/ even light duty chains, through upper and lower eye bolts to hold the top long term.

On the opposite end of overhead storage, I see a fair amount of requests for hard top "mobility" ideas ... some way to move the hard top around while it's off the Bronco.

I have a yard cart/trailer for hauling mulch/stuff behind the garden tractor.
I gave it a shot and dammed if it doesn't fit neatly under the 2dr shell.
With my garage not really being tall enough for long term storage, and there are times I keep the top off a week or two at a time, I have to get the top out so the Bronco can use the garage space for security/rainstorms etc etc.

So I lift the top off with my home built, lousy pulley system, pull the Bronco out from under it, then lower the top onto the cart and wheel it around back for the week.

You will learn instantly that the heavy ass rear glass needs to go over the tongue of the trailer, otherwise it becomes a "self-dumping" trailer. LOL!
The height of the trailer/cart walls were perfect for letting me close the glass.

I installed a Harken hoist in my garage, it works well enough but only 8ft ceilings. I've left it on just the rope for months and it's been fine, but lately I do use a ratchet strap to make sure nothing happens, I don't want to see how expensive it is to replace a whole hard top.

Here is mine for long term storage. Kind of a cage for it to sit on. Short term I just hook straps around it
