I've been itching to get a set of tube doors for a while now. My concern was the same as other members here of things blowing out and a little extra help from getting swatted with tree branches. Not to mention I'd be losing my doorbags (Bartact, really like um) as storage space is valuable Commodity.
So I came up with this idea!
Went down to my local scrap yard and found some Perf-Panel, cut it to fit with a jigsaw, smoothed the edges out with the grinder, scuffed it up and shot it with some Rust-oleum.
I then wrapped the edges in about 8 ft. Of black door edge molding protector then secured it in place with about 12 stainless steel snowmobile pop rivets.
I didn't want to use expanded steel as It is a little sharp and tends to grab stuff.
I thought about butchering a sheet of mole panel but that gets kind of expensive and you only really have access to about half of it but if need be I can always tack in a piece at a later date.
All in all, I think it turned out pretty snappy!
