I’d totally take it apart and rebuild it as new, including new paint. I know that’s not the popular opinion, but patina and antique are just fancy words for “it looks like crap”.
Careful now, them's chair throwin words, lol.

No bondo but my dad had somone weld the rear seam that was failing from the spare tire carrier and its pretty ugly
Maybe address that, but in a careful way. Take the hippocratic oath here: "First, do no harm." 😄 Remember, once something is done, it can't be undone. Obviously, address rust, if any, as well as anything that is beyond the "used and well-loved" category and is more like "falling apart" or "looks like hell". To me, it looks like you have less that needs doing than you think. But I guess it depends on whether you want a vehicle that you can still drive on- and off-road that can add new memories to the old or whether you want to bring it back to "first day Dad brought it home" condition. Nothing wrong with the latter option, if that's your goal.
