For those of us not paying for the Navigation subscription, your navigation still works after the free trial is over. Maps still show but you are not able to enter a destination.

Are you able to use trail maps, or is that also paywalled?

So I can still keep the map up and the GPS works, I just won’t be able to access turn by turn after the sub is up?

Wait until you find out about Toyota making remote start key fobs a subscription service... even though it doesn't require the vehicle to be connected to anything.

So ridiculous - I saw that as well. Toyota actively restricts communication between your key fob and the vehicle for remote start unless you pay for a totally useless subscription. Especially frustrating since they support Android Auto and Apple Carplay, making it an even dumber upsell.

My 2017 Taco doesn't have a cellular modem, so there's no way for Toyota to mess with the truck unless I download firmware updates to the head unit, which are optional.

I'll be just fine when it expires next month. Only used it once, and the maps don't even have the lanes in our neighborhood yet, which have been here for at least 3 years. I'm quite happy with using Google Maps, which I've used for years, using Android Auto. Works much better.

You should still be able to connect your phone to your screen and use any gps map app that you have on your phone.

i get that and know how CarPlay works, but just having a map up at all times that’s more themed to the Sync system and not the sometimes intrusive Google Maps is kind of nice
