No vulnerability there. No way for fuel to come back out. It’s a proven design that has been a Ford standard on all their vehicles for years now. They auto seal and only open with a filler spout. You need a plastic filler spout to fill the tank from a gas can.
I learn something everyday.

That's another good point. When closed it creates a recessed pocket at a downward angle. Where does collected dust and debris go if you push the filter nozzle in without checking and cleaning it out?
I've had capless for 7 years, and this has never been a problem.

Digging back up an older thread, is the fuel door sealed well or has anyone been able to look? Our 12' and 13' Super Duties and 18' Highlander are just absolutely full of dirt inside the fuel area around the cap from living on and driving on dirt roads. I can only imagine how much dirt is going to sit on top of the fuel flap if the door isn't sealed.
