I would love to hear the story about how the Chinese manufactures are approaching the Bronco accessory market.

The impression I get is that Mabett is doing the initial development and then has first crack at selling but then other resellers like IAG are able to offer the same products later from the manufacturer.

Not that anyone owes me a dissertation on the business model but I am curious.

Probably not, the one from Mabett is the basically the same as the OEM lid. Same mold or supplier?

Except, the lid has the slot shaped hole & frame with slots for the wires with a cover and rubber gasket and the thread holes for the hand bolts for the cover; no map inside.

But it works.

I too wonder, do I just buy in bulk and market online? Or, I take orders on a website and ship from original distributor/importer? Or, become a distributor for a Chinese manufacturers?

We do see identical items from multiple retailers on Amazon, some with known names (IAG & Mabett) and others too; but the same items at similar prices,if not the same.

The practice is referred to as "white labeling". Extremely common in the consumer electronics world, and I was surprised to see it in the automotive world too... but here we are. It's single OEM that sells its products to other companies, those other companies slap their label on it and sell it in their own store.

Admittedly I'm not a fan of it—just floods the market with identical or nearly identical products. Meanwhile the truly unique products tend to get buried under the endless pile of clones. But it can be very profitable for companies, because you are essentially sharing the development and manufacturing costs with other companies. It's also lowers the barrier to entry to someone looking to open their own shop. Buckle Up Buttercup, for example, is a YouTuber who managed to start her own store and fill it with a ton white-labeled products.

To the credit of @IAG Performance... all of the stuff they themselves do not develop are separated under the "IAG I-Line" brand, while all of the stuff they developed in-house are under the "IAG Performance" brand. I personally really appreciate they did that because it helps me know what I'm actually buying. But a lot of companies aren't as transparent about it.

Is it just me or does anyone else think that if you wanted your accs wiring to look tidy then why would they put the opening in the middle of the lid with the opening towards the engine side ?

I’m with you on that one. I would think it’s a royal pain the remove the top with all the wires. I think the opening should be on the side edge so the cover is easily removed without undoing anything.

Funny, until you mentioned it, I didn't think about a side v. top opening; I am using for just one add a circuit and knew I'd have to disconnect that one wire to open fully. There is enough wire for me to pull cover up and tilt up, but I also can unplug the connector that's right under the screwed down lid (in photo), so there's an extra step to remove lid, not that big of a deal compared to the box being unsealed for months while wheeling.

At a $16 Black Friday deal it was an easy fix for that.

It's pretty much as I thought. The Buttercup example is a good one and I figured as much. I was still a year out from getting my Bronco and they (and others) were already getting a foothold/established in the Bronco market. And they feature her on the "cover" as click bait on YouTube too, so that helps.

I have a friend who has designed and 3D prints parts for Tacoma's that he's selling on Etsy.

I got one installed today. I had my grill led lights crimped/squashed for the last 2 years. I just relocated the oem stickers.
