It's been awhile since we've had a new product release from Mabett, but here's an interesting one...

Tailgate Air Compressor

Not too bad a price for $300.

Now, I'm no expert on this stuff, so my questions are, and hopefully "Mabett" chimes in, compared to the IAG model that uses the Viair 400, listed at 2.3CFM... How does that compare to 70LPM? And does the 1 gallon tank with the IAG help? Could one be added to this Mabett version?

Thoughts?

2.3CFM is approximately 65LPM. Note airflow varies with pressure…as pressure builds airflow is reduced so it’s important to note airflow at desired pressure ranges.

FYI for anyone wanting to buy this - I'd wait until Mabett makes a post about it as their stuff is normally discounted when they first release

Hmm. I wonder if I can replace the guts with the ARB I have. I like the interface panel, but most of the switches and gauges are not going to be premium. Flashlight def won't be either.

Already hacked the shit out of one Mabett product to make it do what I want, what's another.

Thank you for this...

So, if a lot of the initial opinions are negative of this, how would it compare to the $700 IAG one?

Didn't read the thread, but I didn't know our tailgates were inflatable?!?! What PSI should they be, I haven't been checking... and why would I need a specific compressor?

But you are going to have to run thick power cables to the back of your Bronco to do any of these right. There are also mounts for under the trunk which seems like it would be difficult if you have stuff in the trunk or the slide out tailgate. All of these seem much more involved an install than the engine bay option.

Doubtful. The problem here is they are powering this from the Bronco rear 12v outlet which only supports max 20 amps. Any compressor worth a damn for 35" tires will draw more than that (double that if you have a dual compressor)

Same would be true of the 110v inverter. Figure maybe 100W max using the 12v outlet as a power source. Fine for recharging your phone. But barely enough to light a light bulb for anything else.

You could run heavier wires up to your battery and bypass the 12v outlet. But at that point, you've replaced the compressor, ran new wiring, so what are you really buying here for $300? A $30 100W inverter, some switches and a gauge.

I do like the concept of what they did here - but it's just too underpowered to be of any real use. IMHO....A better idea is just to copy their concept and roll your own plate with switches, gauge and air connector for the tailgate. Using the correct gauge wiring, a good dual compressor and an inverter with enough power to actually be useful.
