when i was trying to make the MIC top make sense i kept trying to convince myself it was just as dark as the rest of the black plastic trim. But I could never escape the name. It's still named carbonized gray.

So that's what it is. A charcoal gray that can look black in certain conditions, but it's still not black

I just noticed but the edges are totally in a different place too So these are definitely newer/different. See arrows.

Different manufacturer? Ford realize they need to punt someone to as a vendor to fill orders?

I wonder if this is why they're having shortage problems with hard tops. The vendor had to make a change in tooling. I wonder if there is anything else noticeably different now? I for one think this a very positive change, especially if the color matches on the fender flares. Looks smoother also.

I feel like somebody said a while ago, that texture goes a long way to change the perception of the color.... wait, that was me... hmmm.... also, yes, new moulds, or highly revised. New texture, typically, means acid etched. Although, i have seen tools wear of and lose texture, thats not until the tool has been ran A LOT. Probably started over from scratch on the tooling. Depending on grain depth, you need to have certain draft angles. All in all though, looks much better with this new texture IMO. Now I'm done here for today, going to go an wait for the new raptor reveal at 11am. Have a good day ya'll.

Still grey 👎 And still Ford and their technicolor dream Bronco!
still soft top for me!
It's getting closer, but I'm still gonna stick with the Shadow Black top on my OBX. That little bit of difference between the color of the MIC top, and the bumpers would drive me crazy. But, that may be just me. :)

This guy gets it 👆 A smoother finish means less sanding too so my white top just got cheaper...I hope!

Why oh why is it so hard or impossible to have molded in black color? It is technically impossible or just astronomically expensive? They have black grills, fender flares and cheap looking plastic fabric based seats and interior trim, all exposed to the sun. Is Ford trying to save a dollar or two? If so, I'm confident the market would accommodate that price increase on a $50,000 vehicle. Please Ford, give a simple straight forward answer.
I'm wondering the same thing. Why can't they add more carbon black to the batch before molding to get it freaking black? These incremental changes are steps in the right direction but let's make it black already!

Photo was made by Bronco Nation. Is this why the more recent MIC tops we've been seeing look darker? Looks to be smoother too.

It is still NOT black. Crazy to think that we'd all want grey.

Me: I’m not a big fan of red vehicles.
also me: Holy crap! That looks fantastic.
and the top? If that’s it, I’m happy now.

A smoother texture means less surface area for light to reflect off of hence why it may appear darker. The plastic itself could be the exact same color it always has been.
Exactly what I'm thinking, this is... Seam is def. a bit wider and splits the 90 on the apex of the curve, rather than off to the side. Not seeing that on the vehicle pix.
