I skipped out on getting a Ranger in order to wait on the Bronco. Am I regretting that decision? No.

For what it's worth, I may try to find myself a 2012 Ranger to tinker with while I wait for the Bronco rollout. These new Rangers are literally the size of a 2012 F150. I know it's due to regulations, but I really think the world wants a smaller workhorse type truck.

Hell, I'd event take a remake of the El Camino or Ranchero at this point, just to get a small size pick-up.

Ford's hitting on all its truck cylinders as the 2022 Maverick compact pickup is also in the works.

I swear every time I get used to a new grill, Ford changes it. And not little changes either. Starting to feel like the old man complaining about what all the young folks are into. ?

That is not accurate.

haha! Well I really like the Ranger, but I have thought a couple times that it would look better with a more aggressive front end. But I hear ya!

Looks a little less like a Toyota and more like a Ford so far. (y)

Not even close. The new Ranger is bigger than the old Ranger but it is still much smaller than any F-150 ever built.

I'm sorry to have to tell you, you're completely wrong. I have a tendency to not speak on things I don't know about. And I know first hand how these two trucks compare in size.

I literally went to the dealership in a 2012 that I was working on and parked it next to the new Ranger, they are close enough to the same size that you can't tell without a measuring tape.

Period.

2010 F-150 LT

2012 F-150 LT

2020 Ranger XL
  • 211″ L x 78″ W x 72″ H
And furthermore, once you get back earlier than 1999, the Ranger is actually BIGGER than the same model F-150. So, yeah, definitely bigger than older "ever built".

  • 211″ L x 78″ W x 72″ H

The front end is the thing I like least on the current Ranger and completely ruled it out as an option for me. Here's hoping this one looks good.

Ugh. I'm sick of these low post count members making duplicate threads for the exact same thing.
Can't just post the photos here, gotta drive traffic to the other site, too.

Maybe slightly OT but could someone fill me in on why the new Rangers are so big? I know CAFE regs play a part here but I don’t really understand it.

Is there really that much of a demand in the truck market that Ford is selling the F150, the only slightly smaller Ranger and soon the much smaller Maverick? Why not make the Ranger the small truck?

Or did Ford bring back the Ranger in a CAFE-beneficial size to eek out the extra volume of large trucks so they can sell the much smaller Maverick and still increase net profit?

If you compare an extended cab or super crew Ranger to a single cab F-150, then yes, the overall length will be similar.

But compare like-for-like cab sizes and it's a different story. Plus the Ranger has a much tighter turning radius due to its shorter wheelbase and narrower width.

Ranger width is 73" without mirrors.

I postponed my Bronco purchase until MY22 or 23 (painted modular top, some different interior and exterior color choices - maybe a nice Boxwood Green????). Seeing this, now thinking a 2022 Ranger may be the way to go. Presumably shares Bronco powertrain, suspension, GOAT modes. Likely a higher tow rating. Maybe it will be time to put my trusty old 2003 F-150 5.4L S'Crew out to pasture. . . :)
