I'm carrying full-coverage insurance on 4 vehicles. It's not a thing of the past, you just have to know how to work their system to get the best deal. Am I thrilled at the cost? No. But I'm also paying as much for 4 as some people complain that they're paying for 2...so I'm doing something right.
I have 3 fully insured and my wife has 1. Hers is an older truck and reasonable. My two are newer and the Bronco is the lower of the two. The third is a classic truck only 375 a year. Clean driving record- I drive slow- "only" 8 MPH over the speed limit and everyone and their brother sister, etc. flies past me like I'm standing still- 20- 30 over. Let them get the tickets and pay more for car insurance.

As far as EV's nope, no way. I'll take a gas, base economy car like a Versa or Yaris with a manual transmission first over any electric vehicle.

Jim Farley indicating larger EV SUVs is not where it's at. And Ford will focus on smaller more efficient EVs. Wonder what that means for Bronco.

I agree with him in the sense that smaller efficient urban vehicles are the sweet spot right now in terms of EV bang for the buck. But Ford mostly bailed a while back on commuter cars.

If these got EV, I’m sure at least the lil Bronco Sport will be in their future plans. Also, if Jeep has a 4xe wrangler, why not the Bronco? I’m pretty sure they are considering and it all comes down to current politics and their EV policies moving forward to make it feasible or not for Ford.

My version of the EV/Hybrid Bronco.
Assuming the MSRP will remain close as advertised. It will replace my WT when I get it.

I loved the idea of bringing back the Scout, but as a EV/Hybrid ruined it…

Bronco should be left alone, if anything add a V8, and focus on their original target audience and competition. They can add an EV/Hybrid Bronco Sport if they want, and given it’s target audience/competition, but they also need to rename it. IMO it should have never shared the name.

It’d be interesting to see hp/torque numbers on a hybrid in Bronco. I just rented a 4xe while on vacay in HA and while touring some ag operations we definitely tested its 4X4. Mud, ruts, slippery roots/vines, lava rocks, etc. Pros were ease of 4WD and locker use as well as impressively good acceleration. Cons, besides being a Jeep, were lackluster mpg (21-ish) and how you couldn’t tell if you’d actually hit the start button or not.

lol yeah. But after I saw these I'm like hmmm it is pretty unique layout. It might worth a shot.

That range is what got me. I have an SUV and pick up on reserve. We'll see how things develop. In a few years, I'm either there, a hybrid bronco (if it happens), a raptor, or a bronco with the 7mt (if they're still around by then?), probably in that order.

We also own a Hybrid vehicle, so nothing against them, but who TF would want a Bronco Hybrid (rhetorical question)?

As is, space is limited, and the size of a hybrid battery big enough to keep the Bronco moving or do anything significant would be enormous.

Add a Bronco Sport Hybrid model, but leave the all-American Bronco alone. Unless it was pre-planned with provisions already implemented into the original design, adding Hybrid technology to a vehicle that was not designed for it never seems to go well. Ford's already have more than their fair share of glitchy gremlins to deal with.

Speaking of which, a coworker has a Jeep 4XE, and it's plagued with problems. Then again, it's a Jeep (shrugs).

Ford lost $5.1 BILLION on evs in 2024. They're understandably gunshy, especially considering the new administration's antipathy towards them.
And they liked it SO much they're forecasting another 5.5B for 2025. Go Ford!!

We lose money on every sale but we make it up in volume, LOL.

We all hope not. We don't need that causing more inventory to just sit because no one wants them. A hybrid would be cool.

I wonder how well the 'range extender' will work in the Scout. My understanding is it just an EV with a built in motor/generator (mg) set built it. The gas motor does not drive the wheels. I heard that Ford is working on an F250 with this type of drive train, the mg set is built around a 5.0L engine. The problem that they are running into is that the when driving loaded or towing the battery runs down and the mg set can't keep up with the demand for power.
One of my co-workers has a BMW i3, when he takes to Lake Tahoe the battery runs down. So he ends up with just the mg and can't keep up with traific.

Fossil fuel being used to power a supposedly eco-smart EV.
Right.

They seriously need to look at what Edison Motors up in Canada is doing. They've got full-on logging trucks (and conversion kits for pickups that are in beta testing right now) that have no issues charging the batteries while driving. They perform better and go further than the Tesla rigs when fully loaded before the generator kicks in. Their pickup kits are looking promising as well.

The tech is out there. If a full-size corporation gets serious and uses it, you'll likely see it take off.

I'm really surprised at all the hybrid love here. The extra weight from the battery, and additional complexity far outweigh the potential torque and range improvement for me.
As long as there is an internal combustion alternative, I will never own an EV, a hybrid, or anything with a CVT.

I did the same. If Ford isn't up to the task, others can fill the need, and right now Rivian and Scout are in the driver's seat when it comes to off-road capable EVs. The question is pure EV or EV with a range extender, and Scout plans to offer both. Having way more torque and HP than a V8 is just a bonus, along with things like mechanical simplicity and refueling in your garage on the cheap.
