Just do what everyone else does (especially in arizona). open an LLC in the state of Montana, and register your vehicle there, as it's not required to have emissions. :-D

Makes me wonder if anyone's got piggyback tune modules for the Ranger/Bronco, vs something that loads directly into the ECU. There's a ton of applications out there for the MED17, so it wouldn't surprise me. The ESS module I've got on my 335 is 1000% undetectable via the OBD port, but poking around under the hood and you'd find it pretty quickly. But it's nice to be able to take the thing off in about five minutes and be bone stock.

If I tune mine at all, I'll stick with the Factory one anyway. If it's anything like the Ranger, will be reasonably priced and have a factory warranty.

There will very likely still be some big names willing to go thru the EO process and make a legal tune. Ford could easily offer a 50-state legal one if they chose to.
They already do for other engines like the 2.3

The best part of stuff like this is that it won't be long until no one actually lives in CA anymore, and it'll be awesome to visit and enjoy the weather without traffic.
That just means the cancer will spread.

you can have a dual path PCM ...shut one off and turn one on..matter of fact a 2012/13 Boss302 had a different physical ignition key for each.

one for the track and one for the street.

I got my Tremor in part to get something big, fun, and capable before this starts to take effect. By "take effect" I mean manipulate the market more than they already have by artificially raising the cost by creating a shortage through regulation.

I don't see an all electric vehicle law ever taking effect. They'll just apply the gas guzzler tax to more and more vehicles. Its like everything else here.

  1. Set an unobtainable goal just over your own personal political horizon.
  2. Enact some policy that can't be measured as a success or failure while you're still in office.
  3. Parade around touting how you're doing soooo much to solve the problem.
  4. Make sure your aunt and uncle make the right investments to profit off your policy.
  5. Leave office before failure and claim, "Only if I had more time!"
  6. Leave a manufactured emergency for the next guy to solve through more taxes and fees.

And for the original topic. Tunes without CARB EO numbers have been illegal here since basically forever. Even OBD1 vehicle chip changes needed a CARB approval. That was just easier to beat.

Sorry but transplant are not the problem. How many of the CA politicians are transplants? Very few, the politicians are the ones that ruined CA.

I live in a state that still has freedom (not a political statement ಠ_ಠ ).

If I wanted a tune for the 2.7 and did not care at all about emissions or CARB compliance, what would you all suggest?

They are (were) elected by the transplants back when we had relatively fair computer/mail-free elections.
Politicians are opportunists
Always have been.
San Diego county went from conservative to leftist in 20 years. Mostly from the transplants that liked it, moved there, ruined it.

New cars don't need smog in California for several years, so it's really not an issue. Surely there will be several tunes available, and Cobb will probably be the best like they are on other vehicles.

As for people leaving the state, those of us that can live comfortably in California are not the ones moving to the flyover states. The typical commenters have never been to California or at least not the good parts.
