Hi all - I have been looking through lots of threads and there has been a lot of good information but I am trying to gain a clearer understanding of ride height between OBX and Badlands. I am going to be throwing 285/17/R17 KO2s on my OBX and am curious what lift I would need to give it the same stance as the badlands with the KO2s? Do both also have the same amount of factory rake?

Any help is much appreciated!

Worth noting before I dive into this that 285/70r17 will fit on an stock Outer Banks without any modifications.

But anyway… if you are just trying to get a similar stance all you need is a 0.67” lift with both front and rear (meaning the rake is unchanged). Which can be achieved with a spacer.

If you want the same amount of suspension travel as the Badlands obviously that’s going to require new coil overs. The Badlands has 0.85” increased travel in the front and 0.4” increased travel in the rear.

Well maybe. Depends on what kind of wheels (offset) you have. I have the OBX (non-SAS) and I just put 85/70R17 Falken Wildpeak A/T on Method 17x8.5 (0 offset) on it. There was rubbing against the crash bars (steering wheel turned both directions). Had to remove them. I was surprised. Thought I did my homework but missed something along the way.

Huh… that is uhh… interesting and defies logic.

The stock Badlands trim has 285/70r17 tires with +55 offset wheels and it includes the crash bars. You would think that lowering the offset would make the crash bar clearance even greater.

OBX has 18" wheels standard. You can't put 285/70/17 on 18" wheels

The easiest way would be to buy a set of takeoff badlands coil overs. $1200 ish bucks but you get the .6” lift and better shocks so not a bad value. Here is a pic of the stock badlands wheels on my OBX. The tires come about flush to the flares and no poke.

Correct. New 17" wheels for me. In my case, Method 17x8.5.

Here are some pics with the OEM crash bar and this wheel/tire combo that was a problem with full steering wheel deflection.

Before I changed shocks, I had 285/70/17 KO2 on 17x8.5 wheels with +25 backspacing. No rub on stock OBX with crash bars installed. Then upgraded to Badlands coilovers and front level kit.

Thanks for the pictures of the aftermarket crash bars, wondered how they looked bolted on.

Too bad you're not closer to me. I should be taking delivery of a badlands with the optional wheels and KO2s in a couple of weeks. The suspension, wheels, and tires are all coming off day 1 and will be for sale.
