Has anyone with a base model with the boring factory plastic bumper replaced it with the OEM MOD bumper? I called a Ford parts dealer and asked for a price for a MOD bumper, and was told, based on my VIN that I couldn't replace it with the MOD.

Help?

I’ve done it, but I’ll tell you picking up someone’s takeoff will be a lot cheaper than new. Cutting off the frame and tow loop bits is a little intimidating, but I did it. Used a reciprocating saw with thick metal blade.

You need to cut them off or can you unbolt them? This is the first time I'm hearing about this...

I have no first hand knowledge of this swap, but I added the RC Tow Hooks by taking off those loops. Not sure why you would cut instead of remove??

The recovery points/hoops that come with the standard plastic bumper are welded to the support bracket that also holds up the intercooler. You either have to remove the hoops or replace with brackets with those that Ford uses with Broncos that have the MOD bumper from the factory. Part nos. are MB3Z-6G079-A and MB3Z-6G079-B.

Personally, I balked at taking a sawzall to my bronco, so I ordered the brackets without the recovery points. But seems like many others have cut them off with few issues.

$1k for the entire swap, including the MOD bumper? That’s not bad. I’d seen part prices closer to $2k.
