I have the weight on my Yakima Lock-n-load platform plus 3 Pelican boxes at 119 lbs. Loaded the dynamic weight will be approx. 145 - 150 lbs. Does anyone have actual travel experience with that much weight on their 6Gen Bronco OEM roof rack. I would appreciate the feedback as I will be making a 5,000-mile round trip next month.

I’m surprised you have no responses yet.

I’m in the process of ordering a Size B LockNLoad (what size did you order?) with the Yakima TimberLine Towers as shown in your photo, but I’m also worried about the weight limits.

A few months ago I wrote to Yakima and was told the following:

The weight limit on this system, for this vehicle is a total of 165 lbs. which includes the weight of the bars and towers (5lbs, plus weight of pair of bars-either 8.5, 10.5 or 12.5 lbs. depending on size) plus your accessory weight and your load weight. The total not to exceed 165 pounds

Our towers on this Bronco are called Timber Line Towers, part number 8000164 and a set of 4 retails for $275.00. The bars shown are called JetStream bars and come in 3 lengths, 50, 60 and 70 inches and retail for $270.00 per pair no matter what size. This system also comes with a set of 4 SKS Lock Cores which retails for $50.00.
When I wrote to Yakima I didn’t ask about LockNLoad at the time and have since learned the smallest model is about 46.x lbs. Let Assume the B size is ~50lbs.

165 lbs max capacity**
- TimerLine Towers @ 5 lbs
- LockNLoad @ 50 lbs
= 110 lbs remaining for other accessories + load weight.

**This number, 165 lbs, came from Yakima. I’m *here* on this forum trying to find out what is Ford Bronco’s true Roof Load having watched this video:

As I learn more I’ll report back here. Likewise, if anyone can answer what is the Bronco’ TRUE ROOF LOAD, that’d be super helpful and appreciated.

I just spoke to Yakima live. Here will be my setup:
  • LockNLoad - size B
  • SL Adapters - order in sets of 2 @ 3ea = 6 adapters
  • Timberline Towers -order in sets of 2 @ 3ea= 6 towers
As you can see, with this confirmation I should have 222 lbs remaining capacity for storage. I’ll never use that much.

To CrystalRed, and any 4 Door Hard top full size 6G Bronco owner with an OEM factory roof rack.

if you have reviewed the Ford literature on their Bronco roof rack load capacities you know that they rate the rack Maximum 110 lbs. in motion (or dynamic) and 450 lbs. when stationary (or static) with the load evenly distributed on the crossbars. I initiated this inquiry on the 6G Bronco forum on Aug. 4th, 2024 as I was preparing for an overland trip SC to MT, WY, CO, NM and back in Sept. I have since completed that trip (total of 6,024 miles round trip) with the Yakima Lock-N-Load system and Pelican cases fully loaded and attached to the Ford OEM rack side rails using the Yakima Timberline Towers (set of 4) loaded dynamic weight of approx. 145 - 150 lbs.

The Yakima platform system and Pelican transport cases mounted to Fords OEM factory rack side rails performed perfectly during this cross-country adventure from sea level in Charleston SC to 14,112 ft. Elevation climbing to the Summit of Pikes Peak CO.

So I can now confirm, with first hand realtime experience, that the Ford OEM rack will support at least up to 150 lbs. of weight in motion at highway speeds. This experience was with a Lock-N-Load platform size 60ā€ L x 49ā€ W and the Timberline Towers attached directly to the factory rack side rails. See pics attached.

OP:

Glad you had success and real world experience, especially before Helene. So sad what folks are going through down there.

It’s interesting to note

1. Ford OEM Rails per the manual that both you and I posted above are rated only to 110 lbs. I’m surmising this is b/c they come with only 1 cross bar.

2. Yakima rates Ford OEM Rails + 2 Yakima Crossbars at 165lbs

3. Yakima rates Ford OEM Rails + Yakima LockNLoad +4 Yakima SL adapters + 4 Yakima TimberLine towers at 220 lbs, and

4. Like #3 but with 6 adapters + 6 towers Yakima rates that setup 330 lbs.

What’s missing from this whole equation is related to the video link I posted above; what is the Bronco’s Roof Load Rating. Note: this is not the OEM rack rating but the roof. Nowhere is that information present.

No experience with the setup you have, but do love the Ruffland kennels in the cargo area. Look great. I've got one in the back myself.
