This question isn't so much to initiate commentary on the merits of insurance itself... we'll save that one for another day when I'm gone... but more for those who have already been to an Off-Roadeo event and have a sense of what it is you can actually do to their vehicles. I'm attending a Tennessee date in about a month. It doesn't seem like they'd be designing trails with the intention of damaging their own vehicles but... that's why I'm asking. Thanks ahead of time.

Here's my take. You are driving trails you have never seen. It may be the first time you have ever been off roading. You may be driving a different version (e.g. 4-door vs. 2-door, Auto vs. Manual). Not sure why you wouldn't just pay the $75, which is probably less than you will spend on shirts and hats there.

and thus the reason why I'm asking people that have seen them ;-) I may want an extra hat instead

So I went to the Nevada Offroadeo and didn’t opt for the insurance, I asked around on here and most said “listen to the trail guide and don’t do anything stupid and you will be fine”. Not sure what the terrain is like at Tennessee but I can’t imagine it will be as rocky as Nevada was. Plus the $75 only limits you to being responsible for up to $3,500 in damage. Either way you decide have fun and just listen to the guide, they don’t want you busting up the Broncos either.

I didn't get it. Since I was doing what the instructors told me to do (like, following a line over rocks), I figured any mishap would be on them. Just what do you think are the odds for an accident in an instructional situation?

This is the way I see it.

I was at the Moab OffRoadeo last year. I think I paid for the insurance, but determined that if you do what they tell you, it would be difficult to damage a vehicle. I banged a rock slider once (being the first to tackle the obstacle), but that's what they're on there for. I think they let me do it slightly wrong so that they could point out to everyone behind me what not to do. ;)

As for the comment about spending on shirts and hats - The OffRoadeo includes a $250 credit to spend on stuff like that. I didn't understand that part when I was there, but ordered everything a few weeks afterward. Since T-shirts are around $30, it doesn't go as far as one might expect. Still, I would recommend using the credit before dinner if you can.

That $250 credit was for OG reservation holders. It is not available to new owners.

What is "OG" and how did that apply to me?
Original reservation holders received the $250 credit. It was one of the "apologies" for the long delay that many had to endure.

Got it. Thanks for clarifying. Yeah, I waited a whole year after ordering plus another half a year in front of that from when I put down my $100 and got on the list.

The trails on the TN O/R are tighter and more technical than I had guessed they would be. And I've done some lite-to-moderate off-roading in N. Ga, which is practically identical to the TN terrain. (I was glad I wasn't an offroad virgin, but I'm no expert either.) It's a cake-walk for offroad so-called 'experts', but anyone else will find a few challenging spots. More than a few spots really did require lockers and a spotter. I was also glad to be driving a 2-door on the O/R, which is what I'm used to driving. Would have been even more challenging driving something I wasn't used to in a 4-door.
As far as "designing trails with the intention of damaging their own vehicles", they're designed to be a challenge and instructional. (They hit it out of the ballpark in my opinion, as it seemed everyone had a blast - whether seasoned or novice.) I'm sure the trails are designed with the capability of the Bronco in mind - not so much the driver.

Not sure if applicable to TN course but this was sent me when asked the same question about Vegas.
