Replies revealed to me was looking at oil temp gauge, not water, so all is well!
My 2022 bronco with 2.7 liter engine got up to 234 degrees other day climbing a sandy wash.

A service manager at Ford said 230 is okay, but that scares me! I know todays engines are designed to run hotter, but I parked until it cooled down some just the same. The fans were running, but would it have overheated if I kept going?

It was only 75 degrees out so what happens this summer at 100?
I was manually shifting to keep the rpms little higher in hopes of better cooling, but didnt seem to matter.
Would hope that when the fans kicked on there would be a noticeable drop in temp, but didnt see any until stopped and idling in park?

Anyone else encounter these temperatures and any thoughts appreciated? Thanks

Sure you weren't looking at the oil temp gauge?

I'm guessing oil or transmission temp as well, I don't think we have a water temp readout. :(

I regularly see the temp gauge at 230+ when wheeling in cooler weather. When it's hot out and I have the A/C running, not so much so as the cooling fans are on all the time. I would not worry about 235 as that's still in the acceptable range. As others had mentioned, if this is the 'gauges' display on the instrument cluster, that's the oil temp, which will get hot when those little hair dryers are providing you with boost, or you're going slow with no cooling fans on. Mine don't seem to kick on until north of 230.

Only be concerned if it gets much above 240, which I have yet to do in mine.

When it's 100+ out, you'll actually see lower temps most of the time.

OMG, just assumed it was water because thats usual gauge in vehicles. When talked to tech he asked nothing about how I got the water temp number or that gauge was oil temp!
Assuming that oil temp that high is fine as water temp would be somewhat lower.
So glad posted this as was worried, but sure enough symbol on gauge is an oil can! Thanks.

Explain.

If 230 is ok then 234 should be ok too.
Your oil temps shouldn’t be more then your coolant just from my experience.. do you have the 2.7 or 2.3? I only see a max of 200 on my 2.3 oil temp.. with my 2.7 f150 towing 8000lbs never went above 210 on oil

Talked to ford dealer tech few weeks ago and today and neither one told me was oil and not water gauge!
Thanks for the help.
Never seen oil temp gauge before, had always been water in any vehicle so had me concerned.

The turbo heats up the oil quick but cools just as quickly.

2.7 as written in orig. Post.
So 234 is quite hot for oil too.
Was manually shifting to help cooling, but had to park and wait for it to cool down.
Id better continue to research what is up. Thanks

The water temp "gauge" is under the useless speedo on the far left

It’s completely normal for oil temperatures to be higher than coolant.

230-260 is normal operating oil temperature for most vehicles.

Consider running full synthetic oil, if not already.
