Ford is resurrecting a well-known model of the Mustang called Mach 1, a performance version of the pony car that first debuted during the golden age of muscle cars in the late 1960s.

The company confirmed the return of the vehicle for the 2021 model-year with a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine Friday, saying it will “be true” to the car’s performance heritage. Ford declined to release specific details regarding performance, availability and expected pricing.

Performance models such as the Mach 1 aren’t best sellers but are considered important as “halo” or “hype” vehicles for automakers to attract attention to entire brands and vehicle lineups.

The 2021 Mustang Mach 1 is expected to offer better performance than the current Mustang GT at 460 horsepower but be more attainable that Mustang Shelby GT models, which are high-performance and track-focused cars that start at more than $60,000.

this is what I plan on my 2021 purchase being. I have a red on red 71 mach 1, I would love to have a red on red 21 mach 1, nice 50 years apart. Bronco will hopefully be in my garage 2022 model year.

for more info, the hope is that it gets the 350 intake like the bullet, for 485 hp, or more, gets the GT350 coolers. that is the weak point on the GTs, they overheat after a couple laps at the track and go into limp mode.

And additionally, the Mach 1 has always had stick and auto options, so many are hoping for the A10 in it.

And other than that, it is expected to have all the PP2 treatment as well, suspension, tuning, tires, etc. So, a good middle ground between the PP2 and GT350, without costing much more than an optioned out PP2 (not much diff between a base GT350 and optioned out PP2), so still less than 60k, likely 57-59k optioned out

guessing ~500hp 435lbft. PP2 packaged. for around $55k starting.

GTPP2 and Bullitt start at just under 50k. shelby starts at 61k so happy middle ground

yup, and not much in the way of options. stick vs auto, stereo level, recaros vs std premiums, and then all the extra doo dads like floor mats, covers, quarter window louvres, etc.

no shaker please. not on the S550. It needs a NACA/NASA hood.
Yeah thats cool, closer to my old grabber hood anyway. I just dont like the hood width recessed radiator cooler scoops.

Ya know maybe we need a police interceptor mustang. That would be a good fit for the godzilla, given its HD nature. Loafing along at highway speeds. Easily keep up with all but the fastest performance cars. give it a 190MPH top end. Reminds me of the pursuit units of the 60s and 70s. Dirty Mary and Crazy Larry wouldnt stand a chance. Kowalski neither.

Maybe not road course material but DEFINITELY a street BRAWLER. ;)
I do like road course racing and everything, and i realize you arent supposed to drive over the speed limit on public roads because "think of the children". But I do wish there could be a magic configuration where you get basic 4 cylinder sport interior of the lightest possible, steepest gears available, and a motor that sees every factory warrantied part ford racing can sell. Dont make it a GT make it a 5.0 like the LX mustangs of the 80s. Most people just want something they can show off in for a half a block or so. And enough guts to give you a thrill on that part of your commute that doesnt have speed traps.

it is....underwhelming. it is still in 1st place on my to-get list, but it just misses the mark by a bit in so many different places.

the front grill, sucks.
the hood is a stock GT hood...which sucks. where's my NACA/NASA?
they went with 69 striping, so why not 69 side badging?
the badging on the back is bad, needs to be taller, more stylized, and silver/polished
the rear brakes, still running single caliper standard brakes? c ome on, at least grab the old GT350 ones
no mention of a red interior, my biggest concern as it is the hardest to fix, I want my red on red.

and the power, it is just a bullitt engine, zero upgrade in that respect.

the base rims are an interesting take on the Mag 500, they need to polish the center of the spokes though and it'll look 100x better.
