What's my leverage? The price needs to be hammered out before anyone gives them a deposit. And if I wanna play hardball and walk away to threaten not buying, then what happens with my reservation? What if I hold and not get my $100 back... We have December and January to place order or we're SOL?
Dealer knows this! They'll just wait me out and I'll end up paying what they want...?
I'm pretty sure the $100 would still be refundable. The best bargaining will likely be when your Bronco is on the dealer lot. Smaller dealers may try to keep you from walking away because it will hurt their allocation. Very large dealers may not care, since that gives them a Bronco for the lot and they have so many sales, it won't impact allocation.

Nobody has said before, but it has been strongly hinted at the penalties are not monetary, but cutting allocations in the future on things like F150 and other fast movers.
Also, the info from Ford said pricing will be locked in at the time of order. I bet we sign something that makes the dealer honor price at ordering also.
I can't see Ford doing anything to restrict F-150 sales. They want to sell every last one of those possible. That has to be wrong.

Maybe this has been answered already, but I can't find it.

Does the removal of x-plan open the door for dealers to slap markups on ordered Broncos?

As has been mentioned, the x-plan allowed buyers to purchase the vehicle at invoice and, more importantly, prevented shenanigans like huge fees and markups.

Now that x-plan is not allowed, does this open the door for dealers to slap on huge markups/fees on ordered Broncos?

Since I'm in CA, I wouldn't be surprised if I went to finally go pick up my Wildtrak next Summer/Fall, and the dealer tacks on an additional $10K ADM.
I think dealers that were planning on ADM wouldn't accept X plan in the first place, because it prevents them from altering the price.

Ok, so since I have an Oct 2nd reservation, I now know i'm a MY2022 Bronco. Is X-plan back for 22? The specific mentions i've seen so far are for MY21.
Even if X plan is available for 22, it may not apply to that offer. You may want to check that out.

I understand what you're saying, and I'm one of the dealers offering discounts. I don't want this taken as anything other than a different perspective. I'm not necessarily defending Ford's decision. But I do want to point out that Ford mitigated markups and facilitated discounted pricing by using this reservation system in the first place. If Ford played this like a normal model line, we'd have ridiculous markups on these vehicles since the only way you would get one is knocking down the door of your dealer along with the rest of the buying public, that, or know someone at the dealership.

This system put more power into the customer's hands to negotiate a deal or switch to another local dealer, which is certainly better than the alternative.

For all the Dealer demonizing, and I agree our system is not perfect, I think it's important to point out that there really isn't an alternative right now. This is the best solution so far I've seen in my not-quite 10 years in the business.

I would also point out that Tesla, the only manufacturer offering an alternative to the dealer system, doesn't negotiate at all.

There are still some good dealers out there, even ones that aren't on here or as engaged in the enthusiast community. Salespeople that are in the business for the cars (Eric @EricAtKearnyMesaFord , Myself, Albert @Granger Ford ), are a fairly rare sight. That's not a fault of the dealer necessarily though, and those dealers have backed up their salespeople, and empowered them to make offers like we have.

Edit: Even without X-Plan, you have some leverage in shopping around and getting a quote since you can switch your order.

Well said...

Did Granger extend their offer until January or are you referring to Fords decision to extend the deadline to change dealers?
Ford's extension to switch dealers.

I will tell you what I lost with XPlan being cancelled. I lost the ability to guarantee I would be treated fairly by local dealers. I, like the majority, cannot stand having to interact with car dealers. X Plan gave a fair deal with minimal interaction.

Now I will be in the unenviable position of trying to negotiate a fair deal on a limited supply vehicle. To be honest, I am most likely going to cancel the reservation and just go buy a new JL Rubicon. I was leaning towards an optioned out Badlands, which now will probably cost me $65k+ttl. Considering Jeep will readily discount 10% off of MSRP(13% if you catch it right), and there is more supply, I can get a fully optioned 2021 Rubicon for perhaps $58k+ttl. That will be a LOT cheaper and a lot less hassle. I can also do it this Fall.

Granger and Stevens both 1k under INVOICE with no x plan. So still a better deal. Probably even if you ship. Not sure why all the fuss.

You can still change dealers, you hold the power to say you want a deal or you will take your reservation to a dealer that will deal. Call around to a couple dealers and ask for the Bronco Specialist, if they don't know if they have one set up, call another dealer. Ask them for a commitment in writing to $X over invoice. As I mentioned in this thread, there are good dealers that have stood up on this forum. You have all the power until your order is converted!

I get that, unfortunately in my area, it seems like all of the dealers are fairly aligned. And I was hoping to avoid having to shop and haggle for a fair deal. This is why the more modern business model of Tesla is much better imho.

Nobody wants to be played for a fool, and most people do not want to turn a purchase into a part time job in order to avoid it.

I hear you. I've been doing this nearly 10 years, people don't like dealing with dealers, and I get it. I have to overcome this perception on a daily basis. I think overall it's still a better option then the alternative of no Bronco.

Tesla's model forces you to pay whatever Tesla wants you to pay, which is MSRP. The 10% off on the Rubicon doesn't exist in that world.

I'd be willing to bet a dealer in the area of GA you're in would give you MSRP for the Bronco in writing.
