Honestly this is a good thing. There is no way a single car manufacturer could get away with this but if android auto and apply carplay decided to both start sneaking in adds, we'd be screwed.

Well I'd just have to modify my foil hat to be a screen cover.

Waze already does this when you are stopped at a light. Ads will pop up for things in the area you are near.

After reading 3 sentences I stopped. This is so far down the priority list. All I really care about is my build date and if I’m actually moving forward with this purchase.

There could be an article about parts spontaneously combusting. Don’t care. All of this is dead to me until I find out a build date that I’m willing to wait for, or move to something else.

While overreacting to unconfirmed things is mostly what we do here, I think folks are overreacting to this patent. I interpret it as the system capturing the details from billboards in case you want to read them later. I doubt Ford is going to blast ads on the screen as you drive. It could easily already do that without reading billboards.
