I work in the automotive glass business and this is absolutely possible. A defect in the window that is difficult to detect can cause this to happen in tempered products. The defect has a different thermal expansion than the glass around it and will cause the window to "explode". If you want a better explanation PM me.

another big deal should be….
MAKE SURE YOUR EMERGENCY BRAKE IS NOT ENGAGED BEFORE A NIGHT OF BIG FREEZE!!!!

I had a rear passenger window basically explode in a brand new F150 while driving 30mph. Same thing, can't happen blah, blah, blah. However, I do work in the window industry and glass absolutely can have manufacturing defects. Ultimately my dealer split the cost with me since I had a decent amount of paint damage on the rear door and the truck was only a few days old. Ford itself was no help but it's a lie the glass cannot have defects.

Another "as seen on Facebook".

Here is the story.

My theory would be that water got down in the track and froze the window in place not allowing it to drop down to clear the top. Flexed when opened quickly and it shattered.

Guess this might be something else to watch out for and be mindful of.
Take to Safelite, not Ford dealer!

I totally believe it. All my windows wobble When I open them, but the rear passenger feels like it’s gonna break every time. Horrible design.

I kid, I kid...

But seriously, I hope they don't have to pay $900 to get that replaced.

So something weird happened to my Bronco a couple weeks ago. I had someone sitting in the rear passenger seat and he asked me if there was always supposed to be a gap in the window. I said "what do you mean?" He says I can see outside and it doesn't look right.....I thought that is really weird and I went to roll it down and it made a pretty loud pop. Like it was hung up on something or came off its track. Once I did that it fixed it but if I wonder if opening the door when it was like that could have caused something like what he described.

Note to self, relocate my home, job, family… so my Bronco window won’t freeze. Thanks

I've gotten into the habit of double tapping the unlock and rolling the windows down a bit on cold mornings. Sometimes it takes a couple tries before they actually move, but after I saw the flex when I tried to open one frozen I figured it's worth it. Unfortunately I'm 2.3/MT so no remote start to warm it up.

I am pretty sure you can you use the ford app for auto start, or schedule daily starts before work, right?.. have you tried that? It is definitely a neat feature I was shown for those who dont have auto start on key fob.

So what ended up happening? I was driving home the other day and my rear driver's side window exploded. It was sunny and 70°.
