Paint an OBX grill white?

with the white grill option seeming light years away, how intensive do you think it would be to repaint an OBX grill white?

I would wrap it in vinyl.. painting shiny plastic (even if textured a bit) is a real pain.

I dont see why it would be too difficult. 90% prep 10% paint. Get some good sanding blocks and good paint with reducer and some clear coat for the final 4 coats and see what happens

WHY COULDNT THIS INTERIOR BE AN OPTION?!?!?!? Sorry, every time I see this interior, I get so mad that they didn’t offer it. No other interior compares to this one! I was originally planning to buy a JL Wrangler, but when I saw the release video in mid July of last year, I was hooked! I do have an order in and am waiting for the 2023 for the body-colored top. In a perfect world, they will have this interior as an option, with AC seats, and lane-centering.

Just be thankful you dont have an BL, WT or FE grille. That would be a self-wrapping nightmare. There are 100+ slots. Consider yourself lucky and wrap the OBX grille, which only has 6 cutouts.

I mentioned in another thread about the MIC tops that I wanted to possibly paint it white at some time. It would take much more prep and priming than base coast painting. It seems the texturing may have changed, and that's a good thing. My idea was to start by practicing with the grill, as that should be easier. Watch a bunch of YouTube videos on painting plastic parts, because for plastic you have to do several layers of sanding and prep and priming sprays to make the base coat adhere. I would avoid a direct spraying of some cheap "paint for plastics." I think if I do enough prep work and priming that I can actually paint it with the Wimbledon White automotive paint used on old Bronco tops.

I recommend vvivid vinyl. It’s very easy to work with. Check out ck wraps on YouTube for some great pointers. Do the Bronco letters in a cool color too!!
