Long story short, I've only owned my Bronco for just over a week, and already got a nice sized chip in it.:cry: And from the looks of it, it's down to the metal. So I obviously need to get this fixed.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

I saw Dr. ColorChip https://drcolorchip.com/ - is this a viable option? Does anyone have any experience using it?

Or should I go to a Maaco or some body shop? It's not big, I can't see it costing too much?

It's Cactus Gray.

Ouch. That on the side or on the front?

Might try a detail shop. I know they can fix some items, mostly scratches.

I've used DR. Colorchip a number of times and have been quite pleased with the results. It's not a factory finish but they don't advertise it as such. If you're looking for an inexpensive way to lessen chips/scratches it does the trick. Good color matching too.

yeah, that's the struggle right now. It's brand new, so I obv want it to look like it didn't even happen. BUT, I also know that cars get dinged and chipped up all the time. Especially if/when I get this thing off road. So while it sucks, do I just fix it, so it's good enough, knowing it's certainly not the last blemish. Or do I pay the extra and get it fixed professionally.

ugh.

Sorry to hear that. Thankfully it's small and you caught it right away. Shouldn't be too bad to fix.

It's stuff like this that convinced me to buy mud flaps.

The worst is it's deep. Metal exposed. So I feel I not only want to, but need to fix it.

How does a paint pen work? I've never done anything this deep before.

Well it makes it disappear? Or just look "fine", harder to spot?

You get a pen with paint coded for your ride. Its for touch ups.

Depends on application. Trick is getting the right thickness for a smooth finish, otherwise it's like nail polish, which still makes it harder to spot. It's probably what the body shop will use, they are not going to repaint the whole part. Probably want to get some primer on the metal to seal it asap, then you can paint later. Id be more worried about rust starting. Unless it's an aluminum part, then don't worry about it. There are videos online about touching up paint.

I just read this, it's pretty much what you would do, good to read https://drcolorchip.com/how-it-works/

Sometimes it's worth paying someone else with experience to do it. Call you dealer for a quote just to get an idea

Yeah, that Dr color chip is what I was looking at.

It's actually not as big as the photo makes it look. So a touch up will likely get the job done.

Years ago, I used something called the Langka system to help with chip repairs. You still use the factory touch-up paint but use the system to help level the paint with the rest of the vehicle.
