But what is the point? Adds weight (I know not much), it hurts MPG and they aren't strong enough to take a hit. As soon as you bump something, they take out the grill hood and bumper....

Hmm Setinas are the ones police use to protect or ram vehicles with. It's attached directly to the frame so I'd have to disagree with your statement. If anything a brush bar would take out your grill and hood before a push bar would.
