My favorite game working in the engine rooms on nuclear powered aircraft carrier. 7 months is a long time to be at sea. Someone sent a kid to find Fallopian Tubing. Took him a while.
last time i was on a carrier, fallopian tubing was plentiful to find. however, getting just that to the engine room would be much more challenging.

Does anyone have pics under the hood in the production vehicles they have out now? Explorer, mustang f150? I have 2015 focus (non-turbo) and it is a little more dressed up than these.

Oh I vividly remember the details. 4.0 sohc was junk from day 1. But I can tell a story of a good ford v6 from that era. Seems nobody remembers 3.0 vin U. Really good motor.
The Vulcan was...okay. Heavy cast iron block and heads, weak on power - at its peak it only made 145hp/170tq. It was eclipsed by the Duratec 3.0 basically the second it came out as the Duratec made 200hp/200tq and had a nice light aluminum block and heads. The Duratec was a good engine - decent power and reliable, but never great on gas.

But this is all ancient history now! I quit the Ford dealership in 2004...i was hoping somebody w/thier finger on the pulse of Ford's current products could chime in?
The Cyclone (3.5/3.7) was an all-new design that replaced the Duratec for 2006. Again, decently reliable but not great on gas. That engine formed the basis for the 3.5 EcoBoost that Ford released in 2010 in the Taurus SHO and in the F-150 for 2011. The first couple years of 3.5 EcoBoosts had some timing chain issues that seem to have been resolved for 2013+ engines.

The 2.7/3.0 as seen in the Bronco were another total clean-sheet design built from the ground-up to be boosted to the moon and back. The most common issues with these seem to be with the composite (plastic) oil pan leaking. Functionally they seem to be working very well with a decent history behind them as they've been seeing hard use in the F-150 since 2015.

Yup and diesels actually have to add some kind of exhaust fluid stuff lol times change but there is still the pnuematic fluid fill valve.

Thats why I took that pic. Alternator failure from being packed w/ mud appears to be a concern. I don't think it's hard to change it (from underneath), but it might be worth carrying a spare. 2.7 alt is mounted low as well. We will find out quick enough!
