Common knowledge and I have a 2019 Raptor with a metal oil pan.

Search for 3.5 oil pan and you will see 2 different parts numbers one through Feb 2018 and then a new one starts on March 2018 with the later being metal.

That's news to me -- where did you get that info? (not a challenge, genuinely interested).

Our 2018 F-150 3.5 (10/17 build) has the plastic pan, as does our 2019 Coyote Mustang.

Are there any positives or negatives of having the oil filter on top of the engine like this is?
No negatives , only positive My wifes last two Mercedes has had the top mounted filter and it's a breeze to change . Just unscrew and let it sit in the recessed (funnel) area and it will be all drained by the time you empty the pan . You can also use that area to pour the new oil in if you like . Also I use a suction tank that empties the oil through the dipstick tube the same way Mercedes does it at the dealerships . There's plenty of videos out there that show that method gets the oil out as good or better than the bottom drain plug . I haven't layed on the floor to change oil in a car in 15 years .

I know Ford temporarily switched to an aluminum pan while they were sorting out the leaking issues . I think they reinforched the area that was causing problems in the plastic pan then went back .

I wonder if Ford is going to put an engine cover on these to give a little dressing up under the hood? New cars seem to have some level of spaghetti monster or Jackson Pollock going on under the hood...the turbo piping only adds to it.
I would think so.

My 18 2.7 is plastic pan, oil change is easy. 2.3 is supposed to be a bit tougher because of oil filter access , but not a big deal. We are doing my sons Ranger this week, SomI will get some insight.

I feel like the 2.7 and 2.3 look much cleaner under the hood of the F-150 and Ranger.

That's about as easy as a modern turbocharged engine gets to work on. Looks like there's more room in the 2.3 engine bay but that's just for obvious reasons.

Plenty of room. JK.
Modern engine compartments are why I miss the cars I owned in my youth: Galaxy, Fairlane, Chrysler New Yorker, Le Mans, etc. you could reach everything and sit on the fender when working.
The good old days! I'm definitely not qualified to work on these electronic nightmares!😢
