I don't know about any technical pros and cons but lemme tell ya my JK has a cartridge filter up top and it is the easiest and cleanest oil change I've ever done in any vehicle.

Spark plugs should be on 100,000 intervals and if the oil is anything like changing it on the F150, its a mess when you drain it depending on where the suspension lines up.

I know it's not apples to apples BUUUUT... the f150 2.7L with some aftermarket Cobb goodies. Hoping the Bronco gets it shit cleaned up a bit more than what's in the OP.

Not sure what you are talking about BUT starting on Feb 26, 2018 ... Ford stop using the plastic oil pan on the F150 with the 3.5.

Lots of issues with Raptor guys on their 3rd plastic oil pans .. and still leaking. Thank GOD I bought a 2019.

It's the future. Our 2018 F0159 3.5 EB and 2019 Mustang 5.0 both have them.

The new oil drain plug design is, IMO, better than a bolt threaded into a thin section oil pan bung. The only downside is you have to be ready to control the initial flow out of the pan as you withdraw the plug. If you pull it out fast, the oil will bolt horizontally out of the side of the pan faster than you can say Exxon Valdez. Caught me by surprise the first time I removed one.

Are there any positives or negatives of having the oil filter on top of the engine like this is?
It lets you drizzle oil along the engine compartment as you remove the filter instead of along the garage floor.

In all seriousness though, that was serious.

Modern engine packaging has reverse-engineered oil changes to be difficult is the real culprit here. Having just upgraded the '51 by removing the oil filter, housing and plugging the block from having oil lines entirely I can tell you that the easiest oil change in recorded history is any car which doesn't use oil filtration.

Interesting..... seems like its design leads to an easier DIY... I like the connectors all in a row in back... will help a lot in troubleshooting any electrical issues
All ghose connectors go to the computer if you have to mess with that your in trouble.

God steered you clear to avoid the plastic oil pan, but you gotta be wary of where he steers you, lest you end up nailed to a literal cross or murdering in the name of truth. Pick your battles, that's all i'm saying.

I have NO clue what you saying and I don't want to know Mr. Rick Astley.

That’s exactly the thing the signals will point you in the right direction. Good multimeter and basic schematic is all that’s needed after/before the code.... getting to the connector however can be a PIA on some cars ... that’s way down the road just an observation

That's news to me -- where did you get that info? (not a challenge, genuinely interested).

Our 2018 F-150 3.5 (10/17 build) has the plastic pan, as does our 2019 Coyote Mustang.
