Hey,

Just purchased a 2006 Raytheon M1102 Cargo Trailer to convert into an overland trailer. It has a pintle eye / hitch.

My Wildtrak has the tow package with a 2" receiver.

Not sure I can replace the eye on the trailer for a swivel eye (preferred). I have seen swivel pintle hitches to mount on a plate and without; then slide into receiver. Seems easier, just think the swivel should be on the trailer, Yes?

Any recommendations on the above and thoughts on using and extension with my hitch or extending the the trailer eye to push it back a foot or two.

Also, any recommendations on the Overland conversion would be great to!!!

Thank you...

That trailer needs brakes period
So you either have hydraulic juice brakes that are actuated by a moving tongue (that’s what it has)

or replace the lunette with a swivel lunette and axle with electric brakes

Yes, hydraulic brakes by Lunette (had no idea that's what it is called). If i go swivel... can i stay with hydraulic?

Not sure if Tow, Lux package came with a brake controller.

Good thought.... Are the swivels full time or can you install a pin to make it fixed?

I don’t know
I would think maybe?

my ww2 and vietnam era vehicles had swivel hitches

you have to remember manpower in the military is cheap
Or that’s how it used to be viewed

flipping trailers was common
A pintle/lunette will give plenty of articulation my concern would be putting the trailer into my spare tire

You can keep them
You have to put the pin in when you back up or it’s hell!

my preference would be electric for simplicity and ease but the surge brakes can work and did

Once he adds all kinds of stuff it won’t be

i like trailer brakes on a high, heavy trailer

i mean the military though enough to run them. 🤷‍♂️ But if you don’t like them don’t run them. Just remember there’s a lot to physics on braking and swapping ends

Correct, but given the right conditions if the trailer were to roll without the swivel in place it could cause the vehicle to roll over too.

Based on my military experience if you are going to run a swivel it belongs on the tow vehicle and not the trailer.

Agreed

I’ve heard of people rolling artillery units behind 5tons…..

sometimes things are cheap because they are not hood deals

Great! I was looking for that.... Everything seems to point to the hitch is the swivel point.
