Just curious to hear if/what everyone will be cross shopping the new Bronco with. As for me, my top alternatives are a Raptor (used), basically any non-diesel 4x4 Ford truck, or a Expedition/Tahoe/Navi. I could be tempted by a Ram but my personal & family experiences with anything Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep has basically nailed that coffin for me; so zero interest in a Jeep. Same with any GM 5.3L truck

Probably a F-150 or a Gladiator. I really don't know.

If the Bronco is canceled (boo!) or garbage (double boo!), I may eventually trade my Tundra in for an FX4 Ranger or F-150, but I'd really like an off road capable SUV as a second vehicle instead of getting rid of the Tundra.

If no Bronco and I keep the Tundra, I'll probably go back to looking at used Land Cruisers and X-Terras. The LC is probably a better choice, but my mom has an X-Terra she's pretty happy with, and I like the idea of parts and maintenance commonality.

Then again, I've also eyeballed old Suzuki Samurais.

Basically, if I don't get a Bronco and I do get an SUV as a secondary vehicle, it's off to the used market for me.

This is a question that I spend a lot of time thinking about. There is literally nothing on the market in the fast, off road focused, 2 door suv space. And there hasn't really been since my Pajero Evolution.

If I did NEED to get rid of my PajEvo and the Bronco doesn't pan out, there's a few different possibilities I've thought about but none are perfect. Here's my working sheet:
  • 2009 Porsche Cayenne Transsyberia
    • Fast and pretty good off-road (diff lock, GTS 405hp V8, adjustable suspension)
    • Too big for my liking
    • Expensive to maintain
  • Subaru Forester XT
    • Most common vehicle for the events I do
    • Needs durability improvements (reinforcements etc)
    • Needs performance improvements (STI gearbox, rear lsd, etc)
    • Still bigger than I'd like, first couple generations aren't too bad but then have bad interiors and tech
  • Subaru Impreza WRX STI
    • Needs raised rally suspension, high clearance bumpers etc
    • Difficult to fit decent A/T tires on
    • Newer ones look kinda silly raised up and older ones have bad interiors and tech
    • Good performance, front and rear LSD stock
  • New Land Rover Defender 90
    • Expensive to buy and probably to maintain
    • Heavy
    • Probably will perform reasonably well
  • Ranger Raptor (assuming we get one here and it has a not-garbage engine)
    • Good performance
    • Waay longer than I'd like
  • 2005+ Land Cruiser Prado 3 door, 4.0V6, manual trans
    • Good size
    • Mods are available (same suspension as an FJ Cruiser)
    • Performance mods are plentiful for the 1GR-FE V6 (ie: factory supercharger)
    • Still JDM so finding body parts might be annoying
    • Would need upgraded shocks + added LSDs
  • Newer (2000+) Mitsubishi Pajero 3 door
    • Good size
    • Later generations had IFS/IRS similar in design to the Evo, good for high speed
    • Would need more performance from the 6G75, maybe figuring out turbos
    • Would need upgraded shocks + added LSDs
    • Not a lot of aftermarket support in north america
  • Just buy another 1997/8 Pajero Evolution
    • Works perfectly for competition!
    • Parts getting increasingly difficult to find
    • 0 aftermarket support whatsoever
    • Still has 90s tech

Iā€™m only looking for a Manual Transmission 2021 Bronco, otherwise I may pick up an old 1st gen 4Runner or CJ but theyā€™re hard to find. Has to be manual and removable top. Otherwise Iā€™m a car guy and would probably end up with a R35 GTR, Shelby GT350, M2 or M4 or not buy anything.

I was eyeballing a Ram Rebel but given my proximity to the city, I think it would be a pita to drive around. I've also looked at the Ranger and the Gladiator. Though at this point, I'm playing the waiting game

Since the virus is a HUGE economic hit to all businesses, car manufacturers will probably be giving suvs away when all this clears. Just wait.

I think there was a thread like this a while ago but I can't find it. No matter. My first or second post on the forum was in that thread but the answer is more or less the same now.

If I don't get a Bronco I will probably get the Mach E and/or a Pajero Evo in a couple of years when they're legal to import.

I'm also thinking about getting a pickup truck because the ZJ that I use as a utility vehicle is getting a little old and worn out. Then again, a few big TLC sessions and she'll probably be good to go for a couple more years. I'm not the sort of person who can survive without a trash hauler.

I'm also thinking about building a Factory Five Cobra and sticking a duratec/mzr with a big dumb turbo in it, but that might be 5 years out.

2019 Nissan Frontier...reliable, tried, tested, old school, naturally aspirated.
2021 Nissan Frontier...see what the new engine/tranny are like. Probably not worth the risk of a new model to gain 2 mpg and a few gizmos.
2021 Toyota Tacoma. I currently have a 2007. Best vehicle Iā€™ve ever owned. Priced out a new one...bloody ridiculous. Frontier is much less. But canā€™t argue with how good the Tacomas are.
Or...Wait for the Ranger redesign and see if they phone it in like they did on the last one or give us something better.

Will be replacing my Q5 once the warranty is up. Already have a 2 door jl rubicon I am keeping. Need a 4 door vehicle for family and work.

Will most likely be between a Bronco and another Rubicon with an outside chance of a Q5.

If the bronco isn't as awesome as it's looking to be, I'll find a 78-79 bronco and dump a bunch of money into it.

To replace my 13 Explorer it would be ā€¦...

1. Bronco ____
2. Bronco ____
3. Bronco ____
4. Bronco _____
5. Bronco _____

you can substitute any of the trims or packages you want beside it, there are too many for me to follow. ?

When things are more finalized I can put it in better order.
