If your priority is off-roading, and you don't need a street legal 4x4, then maybe a UTV makes sense (there are far cheaper ones available than that Polaris, thankfully).

Everything in life a balance of compromises, whether it's a Bronco/Jeep or a UTV, it's up to the individual to find that balance.

When they can reliably do highway speeds without having to wind it to redline.

We rented a Polaris Ranger 1000 6 seater in the black hills. Put 112 miles on it in 8 hours. It was a blast. My bronco would go in 99% of the places we rode thru, probably 100%. No way I’d pay the 36k the model we rented costs new. I get a 15 year old jeep that would lose zero value if I decide to sell it.

I just got back from the Moab Off Roadeo. We also did a hells revenge tour on a side by side. Never having done anything like either of the off roading I did in Moab I’d say the side by side was 10x easier to drive off road and way faster for any obstacle.

Was the Bronco a much more enjoyable ride? Hell yeah!

Was the side by side more exhilarating? Hell yeah.

They were both fun but different enough in my opinion IF you had the money to justify having both.

SXS are pretty awesome. Fast and extremely capable. Doesn’t require the same kind of insurance as a real car, maintenance is dead simple. It’s not as complex as buying a used Cherokee and modifying it for rock crawler only duty. Or as risky as taking your Bronco out for some 7-10 lvl off road trails.

If you already own a 1-ton truck and a trailer to tow it with, the SXS could be considered an alternative to a Bronco. I myself would prefer to have a Bronco and tow a motocross bike, but that’s just me.

SxS prices are crazy compared to equivalent trucks/suv's.

Several years ago I had a worn out John Deere Gator that I traded in on a new Gator. Dealer gave me $4500 in trade. About the same time I was trading in my 2000 F150 Regular Cab 4x4 (everything worked) for a newer 2014 F250 regular cab 4x4. Dealer gave me $3500 for the F150.

I was looking at SXS for my Montana house. I about crapped when I saw the prices. For what I need an older Wrangler will work just fine and for a fraction of the price.
