Not really sure how scientific I can be, but I never lost reception with the stock one it came with and I have not lost reception with a stubby one either. So take that as you will.

I have a Stubby and it works well for me. Granted, I live in a large city with powerful FM stations all over. I suspect the real problem is when you are in a rural area, or area very far from a TX station, or listen to an FM station with low TX power. Yes, mountains and time of day and all that other stuff too. But it's mostly proximity and TX power.

Works great in town. Once I get out to the boonies, there is a noticable drop in signal quality.

I end up running the full size antenna mostly and just use it to stop tree branches smacking the passenger side. It's like a free branch deflector.

Lots of us. No cable in my area, so my phone is my home Hotspot, not going to waste data something I can get for free.

Have a stubby and it is worse than the stock antenna. To be fair the FM signal is horrible where I live for the station I listen too. Even with the stock unit has issues in spots around my house.

Like many, I don't use the radio a lot - but I do use it. My antenna isn't especially "stubby". But it's shorter than the OEM and delivers reasonable reception.

More than one parking lot conversation with people who hadn't yet seen the new Bronco in my area touched on whether that was the OEM antenna. When I told them 'no', they nearly always said, 'looks OEM'.

I have a stubby antenna and like it, as it is less obtrusive. But reception has definitely suffered a bit. But im not using am/fm that often anyways.

I have a long commute and typically bounce through 3 stations depending on location. Everytihng is normal / the same in my other car. But, the HD station drops in / out and slowly getting annoying.

Does anyone think installing a booster would help?

Antena science doesn't allow those stubby antennas to be nearly as effective as the stock one. It comes down to the frequency and amplitude of the signal.
The standard antenna is sized (2.5ft) to be roughly one-quarter the length of the radio waves in the FM band.
A shorter antenna is going to have lower gain without a signal amplifier.
