I LOVE Cactus Gray but I don't think it's retro in any way. That non-metallic gray color has only became popular in over the last few years.

True, but that thing is almost black!

(also, that's what she said)
While its darker than I would like it to be, its actually a more accurate representation.

So yes, is it near black in shade? Yes, but it's supposed to be.

AM + white top all the way for me. I could live with it being darker than i would like, knowing that its staying true to the classic. Its a mental parachute for future regrets ;)

I went race red, but really what makes the retro/EB/1st Gen look to me is the white top and flares. Black, red, whatever white top n' flares and it looks retro to me.

Even more so with white steelies.

I went with Area 51. Something about it just seems retro to me

In certain lights, Cactus reminds me of Fords from the 60s and 70s. Im going with Race Red. Throw a white top on that and it will be a time machine.

Here's the video. Leno describes his Bronco color choice as "Ford Blue" = AMB

My interpretation is that "most retro" doesn't mean "closest to factory colors of the 70's" but rather a vibe or feel you get when you see it. no doubt any of them with a white top gives it instant retro vibes. Something about that Cactus Grey with a white top makes me want to drive on the coast with a surfboard on top listening to The Beach Boys. For me, that's retro!

Antimatter blue - no contest. If we are talking about what color has the most heritage to the original bronco. Check out Leno's Bronco restoration. I am actually picking AM because it pays the most tribute to the original (with a white top).

Unless the question is more mindless in the sense of "which has the most general retro appearance" rather than "what is more retro as paying homage to the original bronco". In that case, probably cactus gray as its a light muted color popular in the 60/70s.
True, If you've seen the series "True Blood" there is a 60's Bronco in it that looks very close to the Antimatter Blue (w/a white top of course).

I wish we had the bright yellow paint job offered in 1975; well at least my childhood friend had one. I have not confirmed its availability in the 70s, but I new one in yellow would be nice.
