OK so this works for me, hope it does you!

I bought this rack at Harbor freight for about a $100 modified it. The depth can stay the same I only changed the width and it was super easy! Drill out the pop rivets on one side cut 4 bars , put it back together. I did not assemble the top rail. Had to drill 4 dew holes to bolt on the hitch bar. I painted mine black to blend in but it is aluminum so doesn't need to be painted.

It stores easy and goes together easy. I will use mine in April when we go to the Bronco super celebration East. We always pick up suvineers and stuff from the smokies so Nelson will be full. My suitcase will ride back home on this to free up space!

What's the weight limit on that aluminum 2" slide rail on there? It would suck having that loaded down and with trail bounce causing the aluminum to buckle and collapse.

It does say 500 lbs, but that would be with the 6 "rails. As long as the load on this stays over the center 2" tubing, you should be fine. If the load is out towards the left or right side, I'd bet you only had half the weight capacity.

I dont know, it's pretty strong also remember I narrowed it by a good 8 to 9 inches

Definitely make sure any load is centered left to right!

It's my plan to get a set up like this. I especially like how you made it to fit inside the bronco so it stores away without taking up extra space. Great idea. Harbor frieght is under rated in my opinion, and that one seems to have really good reviews

Alternative thought: If you left the 9" on there, it could just be stored on the roof rack when not in use, right? Assuming you have to take it with and not leave in the garage

I’ve got a Kuat pivot v2 and was looking at buying a basket for it. I like your idea of cutting down the width to fit in the cab.

It absolutely could! I didn't really want it up there and I don't have the roof rack ,but if I did it could go easily
