Bronco has seriously gotten me so ramped up and excited for off-roading. Since Broncos are delayed and I’ll probably get mine late 2021 or even in 2022, I decided to sell my beloved 2019 Audi S5

And just picked up a sweet ‘97 4Runner 5speed 4x4 with rear diff locker!!

shortly after I picked up the 4Runner, my buddy who off roads decided to take me out to an easy trail for my first time ever off-roading. Which was fun! Until it wasn’t....I mean it was but it was scary.
What had happened was we took a side trail and got stuck in some crazy rock crawling trail that we couldn’t turn around in. So we had no choice but to go though it.
So my first time off-roading that too in a manual 97 4Runner and got to do this trail. This is in Southern California, east of San Diego, Carrol Canyon OHV area. Just super grateful we didn’t roll over and made it out safely.

Congrats on the new-to-you 4Runner. Man, I had a '97 back in 1997, loved that truck.

It wasn't done up like yours, but it was a good machine.

I'd say for your first foray into off-roading you did a helluva job. Looks like you had fun, too. Here's to many years more, right?

Thanks ! And yea! Many more years and adventures! One of my favorite things about this 4Runner is that it has a hurst shifter. I don’t know, it makes shifting through gears so awesome and crisp.

Thanks Norm! It was fun. My buddy’s Wrangler with a small lift and 33’s made it through this area with little issues. So a bronco with Sasquatch should be fine here! But it’s a narrow trail and we both got scratched up.
As for leading the group, more than happy to! But I’ll practice a lot more first haha.
Can’t wait to take a group of Broncos out!!

Heck of a way to get your first experience in!
Looks like you did just fine, so the confidence level should be considerably higher now.
And be honest, you had more fun on that ride than you ever had in the Audi (it's a nice Audi, btw).

And yeah, congrats on the purchase. Looks like you made a good decision.

Holy shit that's like trying to learn to ski on the black slopes. Great pictures!
This is exactly how I felt while going through the trail. Sweaty palms, hoping not to roll over or damage something to where I’m stranded. Even started to think about how we’d spend the night if we had to lol.

Thanks bud! Yea def enjoying this rig.
the Audi was a lot of fun too just in its own way. But I was always worried about scratching it or damaging the wheels. It’s so liberating to drive something where I don’t care if it scratches. Steel bumpers front and rear so people stay away from me lol. Definitely a reversal of roles vs the Audi.
As for confidence on the trails, yea I learned a lot from this and gained a considerable amount of experience. But I would have preferred to work my way up to it. Oh well fire hose it is haha.
