Pro tip on getting wires through the grommet on the firewall (or others around our rigs). A small slit with a new, very sharp and narrow Xacto blade, then snap ring pliers to spread the slit and get clearance for the wire. I've done this many times and this was the best method yet, by far. Kudos to my son who discovered this. He didn't even know what snap ring pliers are but saw them and knew they would help.

Aw, I was hoping you were talking about the actual wire grommet.

Good stuff regardless though (y)

Edit— That plug is used to cover the hole in the firewall that's for the clutch pedal linkage. So those of us with manuals don't get that particular grommet. Instead we have to use the actual wire grommet, and boy is it annoying to get through.

Wire insertion tool. Very handy to have!
But this is definitely a great idea if you don’t have one.

Tell me more.

Is it one of these guys that the TSA would absolutely take away from me?

Yep. Just a simple hollow tube with a sharp end. Poke it through a grommet, then feed the wire through the back. There’s a few different designs, even some curved ones for certain harder to reach areas that you can find.

I'm guessing you have to slap electrical tape or something around the end so the cable doesn't slip out?

No tape required, poke the sharp tool through surface then stick wire in end of handle and push it out of the sharp end into interior.👍🏼

Ohhhh there is a hole in the handle. Alright I got it now, no longer confused.

Also... my wife is over in the corner laughing at this guy's voice.

Hahaha, I just listened to it. Reminds me of the old educational films they would show in school.👍🏼

You can also remove grommet and place proper size socket over it and hit with a hammer against concrete which will punch out a hole. Or fabricate a double sided plastic piece and use a waterproof bushing like I did.

Well that certainly isn't going to work for normal power wires. Seems like some unneeded socket abuse as well.
