Florida snow day. So I thought Iā€™d get the oil changed in both trucks. Took the bronco first. After 5 min guy say. ā€œThis is a ford? Thought it was a jeep.ā€ After some convincing I got them to start with 6 qrts. Instead of their computers 7. They were reluctant but I wasnā€™t going to let them over fill. Guy tells me ā€œ I know the ranger 2.7 takes all 7 ā€œ šŸ˜³. Itā€™s ok theyā€™re younger and learning so I didnā€™t bother. Checked after 6, Full. Then I went home and got the work truck. Same guy walks up and says ā€œ werenā€™t you just here in the 4 wheel drive mustang?ā€ SMH.

Maybe heā€™s trolling me. But I think he was for real.

And you let them wrench on your rigs? Time to find a new lube monkey!
I bring my own oil. My own filter. I always make them show me the filter gaskets. And I never let them replace whatever the drain pan bolt. I work 70 hours a week to pay for vacations and Broncos. Iā€™m not dealing with the dealerships For my oil change. I wouldnā€™t call an oil change, wrenching in my opinion. I actually worked for this company and started when I was 15 years old till I was 21. I as well never thought Iā€™d be paying people to change my oil. But here we are. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

There isn't much difference between a quick lube place and the dealer where I am. And with the dealer I don't need to keep receipts for warranty coverage.

Donā€™t sweat that man, and hate that you felt the need to justify yourself.

Those boys need to get paid too and youā€™ve got a solid process to ensure you get what you need done right.

Out of curiosity, can you share what your oil of choice is? I have maintenance built into my payments for 4 years and it includes the full synthetic Motorcraft, which is pretty good oil, but always interested in what other guys run with.

Thanks

Thanks man. Always at risk of judgement here. If I wanna give it I gotta take it. But Iā€™ve always used Mobil 1 In everything for 20 years. I can be a little lazy with my frequency of oil changes and it was required oil for corvettes in the 90ā€™s. My dad ran royal purple in his 7 second top sportsman cavalier. If itā€™s fully synthetic you canā€™t really go wrong. IMO.

Wow, I had no idea you could bring your own oil and filter to a quick lube shop. If you don't mind would you share what they charge you and the name of the place you use?

I will refrain from giving the name of the company. Because negativity begins when things hit this website. But most quick lubes will charge the same price as a regular oil change and note on the ticket customer oil and customer filter. $29.99

The biggest reason I go to the quick lube, is because nobody else has to drive my car. I get to stay in the seat. At 1200 miles I gave my local Ford dealer my brand new bronco to change the oil. Iā€™ve said it before in other threads, but I got it back with 4 1/2 additional miles on it and a chipped windshield. After raising hell all I got was you canā€™t prove we did it. I donā€™t even like valet is driving my stuff.

I feel ya on the dealership shenanigans. I got mine back with it in 4H in the summer. BOTH front seats all reconfigured, the mirrors adjusted and the radio changed. šŸ¤”. Don't know the exact miles before I dropped it off but I'm assuming there's a couple extra. In 4H. In the summer. Been doing my own since.

Wow. The last time (and I do mean the last as in Iā€™m never going back) - the Quick Lube shop charged me over $90 for an F150, after trying to get me to replace a cabin air filter that the truck didnā€™t have.

That was more than 10 years ago.

So true, so true and I give it at times where warranted; has itā€˜s pluses and minuses I guess, lol!

Youā€™re right about synthetics; theyā€™re all pretty good. I did read somewhere that there is a specific list of ā€œFord approvedā€ oils for our engines. This is totally new to me, as BMW was never that sensitive. I ran Mobil 1 and Castrol Edge full synth in all of mine.

Think a particular Mobil was on the Ford approved list, but not sure. If I find it, will DM it to you. Not sure it matters though to be honest. Want to run AMSOIL, but theyā€™re not on the list.

Love that Royal Purple; some great heavenly nectar, so much respect to dad! :)

I don't have a talent for speaking delicately so apologies if this insensitive. Are you physically incapable of doing the work yourself? If not, you're already doing 90% of the job, in the time it takes to drive to the lube shop you could have finished the job.

Now if you are disabled and can't do it, I'm just an ass and please disregard.
