Here’s my take on a GMRS install. I wanted it hidden and to be able to remove and store the microphone easily. I found a stud by the brake pedal and fabbed up a bracket to mount the radio. I still have to fab up a nicer bracket to mount the antenna and hide the antenna wire under the cowl.

Can I ask what mic extender you used?

Installed my Midland MXT275 today and I’m very happy about how it went and how stealth it is.
I wanted the main module somewhere behind the glove box and found a horizontal support that I could zip tie it to on the right side. I pretty much just did the same thing the Ford tech did when they installed the VSS security system and zip tied the module to the left side horizontal support.
I installed a flush RJ45 mount under the right side hvac controls and ran the power and antenna wires to the drivers side firewall pass through. I connected the red direct to the battery and the ground to an existing ground post in the area.
I just need a better solution to mount the antenna. I’ll probably get some ditch light mounts thatHave extra holes for the antenna knowing that I just can’t operate the lights at the same time as the radio.

Great install ideas. I have that exact same ethernet coupler (round screw on cap)... we're thinking we're going to mount ours just to the right of the USB outlet in the cubby in front of the shifter.

I ran power and ground straight from the battery with an inline fuse. I wanted constant power to it. There is an unused grommet right there on the firewall behind it. I ran it through there.

I’m thinking about putting my base unit under the center console with a mic connection point put in the wall of the console storage box. Should I have any concerns about airflow/cooling of the main unit if it’s enclosed under the cup holders? Wouxon 1000g 50w by the way.

That is a very nice radio which I plan to eventually get.
If it does fit in the center console under the cup holders, I would be concerned about airflow, especially when transmitting. That particular radio has a cooling fan that may help a little in an enclosed area, but it does produce a good deal of heat.
I will most likely be looking at installing mine in the glovebox.

Agreed on the heat production. I feel like the glovebox would have less space and be harder for the unit to breath?

The glovebox is open to the top, so there should be more airflow with the dash cavity getting air in from the front floorboards.
When I replaced my dash speakers, I could see down into the glovebox from the passenger side speaker location.
