Oh so there's no cutting involved for that location? That's great!
Nope, no cutting or drilling. If you pull that bottom panel open, it just swings down. Theres a metal piece in there, not sure what it’s for but I just took it out and stuck the radio to the bottom of the column. Once you close that panel back up, it squeezes the radio just snug enough not too move.

Interesting Location. I was thinking of trying to do something by mounting it to this @JcrOffroad console panel.

This is just my temporary setup, have another radio on the way with a detachable faceplate so I may end up putting the body in the glove box or something. That JCR mount in another option too

I mounted my antenna at the spare tire location using a Jeep antenna mount.
Jeep and Ford have the same spare bolt pattern.
Amazon link for the mount: Here
This mod requires to push the wheel out a bit, I went with a 1.25” wheel spacer but you “might” be able to get away with a 1” spacer.

I couldn’t be happier with the results. The spacers come in a 4 pack, so if anyone in CO needs a spacer, I have three left.

How did you route the coax for the antenna?

I went through the air vent behind the spare mount, I may pull it back and pop through the grommet to the left of the mount.
There is a plastic trim piece on the inside of the door that allows to feed inside through a hole and follow the factory wires to the inside of the cargo area. From there I stayed low tucking under the interior trim and door threshold trim panels.

How is this wired up? Where did you route your antenna cable?

Power is from the Aux #6 wire and a ground in the engine bay. The antenna coax and the power cables are routed through a small removable grommet in the firewall on the driver's side and the radio sits directly underneath the steering column.

Here’s my take on a GMRS install. I wanted it hidden and to be able to remove and store the microphone easily. I found a stud by the brake pedal and fabbed up a bracket to mount the radio. I still have to fab up a nicer bracket to mount the antenna and hide the antenna wire under the cowl.

I initially did the same antenna mount but found the spare wheel and metal of the tailgate degraded my signal considerably. Hope your radio performance is better than what I experienced with that antenna mount and a Midland MXTA26 antenna. Looks like your antenna base may be elevated enough to mitigate the high reflected signal from the nearby metal.

If the radio performance does not meet your needs then you might look at your signal with the spare tire off and then again with it on.

I'm still trying to decide on where to place the microphone mount.

Amateur Extra checking in. LOL!

I currently have a UHF/VHF rig in my FX4, but may go one step further on the Bronco (when it arrives) and install an HF unit. I drilled the roof for an antenna mount on the FX4, but I'm certainly not doing that on a brand new Bronco. LOL! Tagged for future reference.
