Here’s my take on a GMRS install. I wanted it hidden and to be able to remove and store the microphone easily. I found a stud by the brake pedal and fabbed up a bracket to mount the radio. I still have to fab up a nicer bracket to mount the antenna and hide the antenna wire under the cowl.

Can I ask what mic extender you used?

Installed my Midland MXT275 today and I’m very happy about how it went and how stealth it is.
I wanted the main module somewhere behind the glove box and found a horizontal support that I could zip tie it to on the right side. I pretty much just did the same thing the Ford tech did when they installed the VSS security system and zip tied the module to the left side horizontal support.
I installed a flush RJ45 mount under the right side hvac controls and ran the power and antenna wires to the drivers side firewall pass through. I connected the red direct to the battery and the ground to an existing ground post in the area.
I just need a better solution to mount the antenna. I’ll probably get some ditch light mounts thatHave extra holes for the antenna knowing that I just can’t operate the lights at the same time as the radio.

Great install ideas. I have that exact same ethernet coupler (round screw on cap)... we're thinking we're going to mount ours just to the right of the USB outlet in the cubby in front of the shifter.

I ran power and ground straight from the battery with an inline fuse. I wanted constant power to it. There is an unused grommet right there on the firewall behind it. I ran it through there.

I’m thinking about putting my base unit under the center console with a mic connection point put in the wall of the console storage box. Should I have any concerns about airflow/cooling of the main unit if it’s enclosed under the cup holders? Wouxon 1000g 50w by the way.

That is a very nice radio which I plan to eventually get.
If it does fit in the center console under the cup holders, I would be concerned about airflow, especially when transmitting. That particular radio has a cooling fan that may help a little in an enclosed area, but it does produce a good deal of heat.
I will most likely be looking at installing mine in the glovebox.

Agreed on the heat production. I feel like the glovebox would have less space and be harder for the unit to breath?

The glovebox is open to the top, so there should be more airflow with the dash cavity getting air in from the front floorboards.
When I replaced my dash speakers, I could see down into the glovebox from the passenger side speaker location.

I know there are a few threads on radios in the forums but I'd like to start this thread for a spot to document installations. I've been trying to figure out how to mount my Wouxun KG-1000G and antenna. I am planning on mounting the face plate above the driver side visor and the mic bracket just above the aux switches.

I'm trying to figure out how to route the ethernet cable down to the floor without damaging too much.

Also trying to figure out how to get the antenna to the rear tail gate.

Would like to find a bracket I can mount off of the spare tire mount to mount the antenna.

As I figure it out, I'll post pictures and instructions. I hope others will do the same.

Thanks!
Consider a Comet Dual band antenna. It will run VHF and UHF. I mounted mine on the driver's side mirror using a Rugged Radio Billet NMO mount, and used the Diamond NMO with RG316 coax. Got a 1.01 on the SWR meter.

I mounted my antenna at the spare tire location using a Jeep antenna mount.
Jeep and Ford have the same spare bolt pattern.
Amazon link for the mount: Here
This mod requires to push the wheel out a bit, I went with a 1.25” wheel spacer but you “might” be able to get away with a 1” spacer.

I couldn’t be happier with the results. The spacers come in a 4 pack, so if anyone in CO needs a spacer, I have three left.

I tried to use this antenna mount today and discovered this interference (Sasquatch tire). 4x I lifted that darn tire up to mount it in Los Angeles blazing sun hoping to get it to fit.

If you still have one of those spacers I would love to make a deal for one.

I made a modified version of the jeep mount to fit behind my Sasquatch spare tire -jeep one (Amazon) on right. I used 12ga steel sheet. It is probably too wobbly for a final version, but I am test driving it for now. I might weld on a piece of rod or maybe try to crease and fold the upright portion to stiffen it up.

Thanks to @Cousin Eddie and @Raptor18 for the inspiration.

I think one could make a much cleaner version by not following the jeep profile. Might get to that if I find myself with any spare time....
